1.) reader who is Mac's girlfriend works alongside him & Zoe & is there to comfort Mac later & over a bowl of Rocky Road ice cream Mac realizes how short life really is & proposes to his girlfriend.
2.) Au: instead of Zoe being the one on the ship it's Mac's girlfriend/fiancée (who for some reason no one knew about)
(Everything else about the situation follows the show, sadly)
3.) Au: Zoe survives & comes to L.A. She & Mac get that Rocky Road ice cream & she starts working at the Phoenix.
Because it should've been 32.
