In the Heart of an Excorcist

Looking for answers

Kanda sighed. The had been on this train for two days now and he was starting to go insane from the closer quarters with the beansprout. The others were tolerable, but Allen had started  acting like his old usual self. Tch. His hair was not girly, it was just long, and he was not turning into a softy. Kanda was just being nice to Rin. He was nice to almost everyone. Kanda was not a grumpy old man. Stupid Moyashi.

Kanda looked back down to the book he was reading. He had woken up an hour ago and had decided to get some research done. Unfortunately, the Moyashi was the only other one awake and had started teasing Kanda. Though the samurai had things to tease Allen about. For example, Lenalee sleeping on his shoulder. Allen had blushed and muttered something about the 14th and shut up.

"Kanda?" Never mind. The baka Moyashi was talking again. "What are you reading?"

"None of your business."

"Come on Kanda. I'm bored and want something to talk about."

"You brought your own books didn't you?"

"Yeah but they are all useless. They all have bizarre speculations about the Heart and from what we've seen they're all wrong."

Kanda tossed him a book. "Read that."

Allen looked down. "What is this?"

"Tell me if you see her."

"Her?" Allen looked closer at the book. Kanda had handed him a register of all the exorcists starting fifteen years ago. "Oh."

Kanda rolled his eyes. He had already got through ten through thirteen years and was now reading about the exorcists fourteen years ago. Surprisingly there where a lot. Each year had it's own separate volume. The books were full of exorcists dying and a new exorcist synchronizing with the innocence and then later dying. Eventually Kanda would read about the same thing happening to him and the woman he used to love. Fifty pages later Allen started talking again.

"Kanda do you think I can do it?"

"Do what?"

"Open a gate into the new ark."

"Yeah."

"How?"

Kanda looked at the Moyashi. He could be so dense sometimes.

"Look Moyashi. You are one of the dumbest people I know, but when you set your mind to do something, you get it done."

"Thanks I think."

"I mean it Allen."

"Kanda are you okay?"

"What are you so surprised that I can be nice?"

"No. Well yes kind of, but so much has happened in the past few months."

"Do you think I'm gonna break down and cry about it?"

"No but I think you should open up and talk about it sometimes." Kanda laughed. "I'm serious."

"Look beansprout. Yes I have had a few problems in the past, but that is in the past. I am alive right now and I plan to use every second of my life to accomplish what I want for what I have left of my future. What about you? You've been going through some shit yourself."

"You mean the 14th? He hasn't bothered me much recently besides giving me dating advice."

"Dating advice?" Allen blushed and hid his face in the book in his hands.

"He just sits and talks to me and it has been really weird."

"Well I like the change. It was such a pain in the ass when you started going 14th on us."

Allen laughed. "You've changed Kanda."

"What do you mean?"

"We have never been able to keep a civil conversation going this long between us."

"So?"

"So you have become a nice person."

Kanda rolled his eyes. He only had one month to live and he wanted to spend it well. If that meant talking to the Moyashi then fine. He wanted to learn his and his lover's name before they died. And of course, he would find the stupid Usagi and after saving him, beet his ass for making him go through all this work of finding him.
