In my first book I said that Rin barely reached Allen's eye level. I was planning on making him a lot older. I'll go back and fix it, but Rin is around eight or nine and barely reaches Allen's chest level.

Kanda studied the tiny child that clung to him. Rin had cried himself to sleep about an hour ago. Kanda knew that the boy's visions would be a problem but he hadn't realized just how bad they would get. The visions were usually innocent and easy to deal with, but Rin must have seen something that terrified him. Kanda had a pretty good idea of what he had seen. Kanda knew he was going to die soon and now Rin also knew.

Rin whimpered softly and curled his hands around Kanda's shirt. Kanda ran his hands through the boy's hair and shushed him gently. Kanda had never been scared of dying. In fact, he was kind of excited as sick as that sounded. Alma and his lover where dead. When he died he would see them again. He knew that it would be coming soon. He had excepted it. Now he had someone who deepened on him which was something he had never experienced. He had distanced himself from the people around him and refused to view anyone as precious. Then Rin came and smashed down his walls and forced himself into Kanda's heart. Kanda was scared to die now. Not because he was afraid of pain or the hell that he would most likely go to but because if he died, he would leave someone behind.

"Kanda?" The man looked up to see his white haired traveling companion sitting across from him. He sighed. "What now?"

The man shrugged. He gently pulled the ribbon out of Rin's long hair and watched as it fell around his shoulders in long, blood colored waves. Kanda took down his on hair and pulled out a blanket from his bag. He tucked the small boy into his chest along with his bear, and wrapped him in the blanket. He then closed his own eyes and drifted off to sleep.

In his dreams he saw Alma again. He was sitting in a field of flowers reading a book. Kanda's lover also sat with him. They looked up and waved at the man. Kanda walked toward them. He sat down with them and they talked. They laughed and Kanda felt a small smile grace his lips.

"We missed you Yuu. We are so excited to see you again!" They pulled him to his feet and led him away from the flowers into a much more beautiful field. Kanda was about to step into the field but he felt something tug the back of his shirt. He turned to see Rin dressed in the tunic they had found him in. He was pale and scared.

"Please don't leave me alone again." Kanda knelt down by the child.

"Come on Yuu." Alma pulled him into the field. Rin tried to run after him but slammed into an invisible barrier.

"Yuu please! I'm scared." The child banged his fist against the barrier and cried. "Please! They will come back for me. I'm scared. They turned me into a monster. They're going to make me hurt someone."

Kanda was pulled farther into the field and eventually lost sight of the frightened lonely boy.

Kanda woke up and felt the little bundle shift in his lap. He looked down to see beautiful gold eyes rimmed with red. Rin gently ran his hands over Kanda's face and started to cry again.

"Hey Rin. It's going to be okay." The little boy nodded. Kanda stood and looked around at the rest of his team. They were all asleep. He shifted Rin into a more comfortable position and walked into the hallway. It was a little past midnight so no one was awake. He carried the boy to the end car and the sat outside and watched as the dark world passed by them in a blur. Wind whipped around them. The starts above them winked and blinked and the moon stared down at the two.
