I made my way up the stairs and walked into my room. I hoped my father would leave me alone today. It was false hope. I knew there was no possibility he would leave me be. I layed in my bed until around noon. That's when my father usually awoke after a night like last night. He wandered into my room. I was at my computer desk and glanced at the door. I was absolutely terrified. I turned around and looked at him and he stared at me in disgust.

"I told you not to leave last night."

"Yes you did, father."

"Why did you leave." He was still looking at me in disgust.

"I don't know father."

"DONT LIE TO ME!" He walked over and slapped me across the face.

"I'm sorry." I choked back some tears.

My father closed my bedroom door and began to undress before me. I stood up and did the same. I was completely apathetic. When this happened I usually had no emotion. My father did what had to be done and left. I quickly walked into my bathroom and puked in the toilet. I jumped in the shower and turned the water as hot as possible. When I got out I began to brush my hair. I used no makeup for there were no mirrors. I was forbidden to use one. After my shower I dressed in a oversized tee shirt and a pair of sweatpants. I walked back into my room and heard the some strange sounds coming from the forest. I looked out my window and saw a group if muscled men with chainsaws. I opened my window almost in tears.

"FATHER NO! PLEASE!"

He wouldn't look at me. I knew this day would come. My father gave the signal and the men began to chop down my beautiful forest. I began to cry. That was my only safe haven in this world. The only place I could escape my family and myself. The process took quite a lot of time to complete. The entire time I would not utter a single word. They only cut a half mile of trees down. The men had refused to go any farther. They said something evil was in that forest. That they were cursed so on and so forth. I couldn't understand what they were talking about. I had spent most of my childhood hiding in that forest. I knew almost every square inch of it. I had never gotten lost or scared. A month after my forest had been cut I finally emerged from my room. My mother was elated. I did not look at anyone or utter a single word. I walked outside and stood at the edge of the clearing. I was in tears again. This act had made my hatred for my father burn evermore. I stood there for hours. My mother had coaxed me to come inside around nightfall. I ate dinner at the table and secluded myself in my room when I was finished.

I was homeschooled and summer vacation had only just started. But for me it was already over. I had no friends, no boyfriend, no pets, no tolerable siblings, and I was forbidden to see or meet any other family members. The forest was my only ally. I got up from my bed and looked at the clearing. To my surprise the edge was no longer a half mile out. It had gotten much closer. I was elated. I went to bed with a smile for the first time. When I awoke the forest had been completely restored. It was more beautiful than before. I ran down the stairs and threw open the front door. My father was standing on the front stoop. I had almost ran into him. My smile had diminished into a smirk of triumph. My father stared in disbelief. He mumbled words I could not decipher. He finally turned around, pushed me aside and disappeared into the parlor. I ran back up the stairs and dressed myself. I had to visit my forest. I had to explore the parts that had been missing for so long. I cannot explain to you how it happened but it did. The mythical beast of my forest had been fought and tamed, and in a matter of days it had regained it strength and fought back. It was a wonderous miracle.
