Chapter 4: Nightmares

"What did I say about disobeying me" He picked me up by the hair and threw me against the wall. I fell to the floor and put my hands to my head in pain. It was pounding and I could feel the blood on my hands. My eyes began to water.

"I told you to be back by 10. Tell me does it look like its 10 to you." It was 11. I had gone out by myself to get away from everyone but I lost track of time and came back late. I shake me head in response.

"ANSWER ME" my father had started yelling.

"No" my voice cracked as I answered. Dammit.

"Your weak and a rotten child. Always disobeying me. Your a wild child. Thats why you have no friends. I think you need to be taught another lesson.

There was a flash of lightning and then a clap of thunder followed.

My father laughed. It was a cold laugh not the kind you hear thats full of joy. His laugh was pure evil.

"You get to sleep outside tonight". My father walked over to me and dragged me to my feet.

"B-but its r-raining" the tears I had hopelessly tried to hold back were falling down my cheeks now.

"Well think of it as another lesson" he snarled. "If I hadn't so graciously stayed up to await your arrival, you would have had no way in and ended up sleeping out there anyway. It should teach you to obey my orders".

"No no no" I had begun begging my father not to throw me out. He didn't listen as I continued screaming.

Aidan's POV

I couldn't sleep. There was a storm outside and the rain was beating down on the windows but that wasn't what was bothering me. Brooke was on my mind. I still kept asking myself the same questions, why was she here, what pack did she come from, why does she suddenly go quiet when I ask about them. Did she not have parents? Any family? How did she not know her birthday!

The was a loud clap of thunder and then I heard a scream. I immediately jumped out if my bed and ran into Brooke's room. She was tossing and turning in her bed, tears rolling down her cheeks. I ran to her side and tried waking her. "Brooke, Brooke". Her eyes immediately opened. She jumped up with a frantic look in her eyes. The t-shirt I gave her to sleep in was stuck to her body with the sweat.

"It was just a dream" I pulled her into my embrace. I was quite pleased when she didn't pull away but in fact, leaned into my touch resting her head on my chest. We just sat there in silence for a few moments. The sparks of the mate bond being felt everywhere our skin touched.

"Thank you" she mumbled. Her breathing was heavy. I wish I knew what she was dreaming of. Either way she seemed terrified by it.

"Your welcome". After a while her breathing evened out and I could tell she had drifted back to sleep. I just lay there with her. Not wanting to move. After while I drifted off beside her unable to stay awake any longer.

Brooke's POV

When I woke up I immediately felt someone in the bed with me. I knew it was Aidan. There is this thing with mate's that you can tell when they are near you or touching you. There is like a tingling feeling when your skin touches theirs. I realised I was lying on his chest. He was still asleep as I remembered what had happened during the night.
