Chapter 2
Over the four years after Shiro's rescue, he and Karin became best friends. Kana was displeased at the friendship and always worried that Shiro would cause Karin problems later on. Despite Kana's displeasure with the friendship, she allowed it. Karin and Shiro almost became irresistible whenever Karin had downtime away from the pack. The time of four years passed by quickly, and soon Toshiro was 16 and Karin was 14, and just like the old woman had predicted, the pack could hear the kingdom getting closer and was just outside of their camp. Seeing other people become frequent enough worried Karin whenever Shiro was there. She knew that she couldn't hide his secret for very much longer after all is white hair wasn't normal. If someone saw it, he would be recognized.
"Kana, do you think I did the right thing keeping his identity to myself?" she asked cautiously. Kana looked over at Karin studying the human girl before replying,
"I think it was a difficult decision, but I would suggest telling him soon before he finds out by himself." Karin nodded before hugging the giant wolf.
"Thanks," she muttered before running off to find Shiro. She eventually found him back at the lake, collecting herbs for the old woman Hana, "Shiro, can we talk?" Karin asked as she walked over to him, catching his attention. His teal eyes studied her for a moment before he nodded, setting down the bucket and standing up; he was slightly then her and had to look down to make eye contact with her.
"Sure, what's up?"
"I have a secret that I haven't told you, and I should have...... I'm sorry that I didn't" she started trying to form the words to tell him.
"Is it where you keep your extra food causes I already found that spot months ago," he asked smugly. Karin shook her head,
"No, it's about who you are and where you belong.." she trailed, waiting for him to yell at her.
"W-what do you mean? You said you didn't find anyone that matched my description, so how would you know where I belonged?" he questioned, taking a step towards her. He was already feeling his anger beginning to swell inside him. Karin looked down as her right arm rubbed her left arm nervously.
"Well, I actually found one child with white hair and teal eyes... That is the Prince Toshiro Hitsugaya; he was taken when he was four," Karin confessed within the next instant Toshiro had leaped at her, pinning her down as his hand grasped around her throat. Karin struggled against him, grabbing his hands, trying to allow her room to breathe.
"WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME!" he shouted as his eyes turned to a darker teal; after Karin didn't reply, he realized that she had weakened her struggle against him and realized what he was doing before releasing her and stepping away. Karin gasped for air as she was sent into a coughing fit, struggling to get air back into her lungs.
"I didn't want you to go... You are literally the only person that can understand me," she finally replied, out of breath.
"How could you not tell me! You were only thinking of yourself; you didn't care about me! These last four years, I could have been with my family, but instead, I've been out here in the woods with you, an old woman, and a pack of wolves!" he yelled, infuriated.
"Well, now is the time; if you want to go back, then go now. The pack and I, we have to move soon," Karin replied as she stood up, returning to her usual demeanor.
"So you decided to tell me that I'm the prince, and now you are running away, geeze your such a great friend Karin," he spat, still pissed off that she had kept the secret to herself over the years. Karin was about to reply when she was tackled to the ground; Toshiro was about to attack the man that grabbed her but was grabbed himself and pulled away.
"Are you really the prince?" the man asked. Toshiro's attention was brought to the man that stood in front of him, covered in armor.
"I-I don't know," he answered honestly. The soldier studied him for a moment before leading Toshiro away to a carriage taking him to the castle. Meanwhile, Karin was fighting against the soldiers as they held her down. She was about to howl to alert the pack that she needed help when they bashed her head against the ground knocking her unconscious.
Toshiro thought he was filled with questions as he rode in the carriage through the kingdom, completely forgetting about Karin. It didn't take them long to arrive at the castle where a man and woman both with white hair were waiting. The man had the same teal eyes as Toshiro, as the women had soft blue ones. As soon as he stepped out, his parents gasped, seeing him before his mother engulfed him in a hug. It took a moment for him to realize what was happening before he wrapped his arms around her burying his face into her shoulder.
"M-mom," he croaked before looking up to see his father behind her, "dad." The woman broke the hug stepping back slightly to take in his full appearance, keeping her hands on his shoulders.
"That's right," she answered before they led him into the castle and to a room where they could sit and talk.
"I can't believe after 12 years we finally found you; what happened?" his father asked. Toshiro thought for a moment, forming what he was going to say.
"I was trafficked, the last people that had me were cruel, I thought that I was going to die," he explained, remembering being stuck to the cold concrete table.
"Oh my, I guess it's a good thing they found you when we did," his mother started.
"Yes, indeed, it's just a shame that they have such a young girl helping them; I mean, she's younger than you. She'll be taken to prison and executed. It's just a shame, so young and yet no future," the king voiced, catching Toshiro's attention, forcing him to remember Karin. Toshiro tried to say something, but his parents kept cutting him off and took him to his old room.
"Can you listen to me!" he finally shouted, catching their attention. After both his parents stopped talking and had their attention on him, he began, "the girl that was brought in, she isn't a trafficker. She actually saved me four years ago. You can't let them execute her; she's my friend," he voiced.
"Alright, I'll send a letter to the guards get them to bring her here; we can talk more about this tomorrow, rest easy Toshiro, your home, and I'll get your friend released," his father promised before both his parents kissed his forehead and left him alone in the room to look around. Toshiro wanted to be happy, but he wouldn't be comforted until he knew that Karin was safe. He felt regret thinking back to their fight; he almost choked her. If he hadn't, she might have been able to get away.
That's it for Chapter 2!
