*The girl in the above picture is Jade.*I sat up straight and pressed play on the remaining half of the file.
"I just stood there staring at her like an idiot. What can I say? I was desperate. To maybe find a hint of warmth in her brown eyes which could once light up the whole world... just once again? Or maybe I as trying to plead for her to come back so that I could tell her how much I missed her.
I kept staring but, nothing. Her eyes were cold and dark now. Just like a tree which was once evergreen losing all its leaves and becoming dry."
I paused it. I couldn't take it. His voice sounded so sad and cracked like he would cry any minute now.
"Maybe I was trying to pretend that nothing was wrong, that we were still kids standing in the corridor right after Cody had introduced us. But I no longer equip that skill. I forgot how to pretend long ago. There she was, standing in front of me and she wasn't the same Jade.
"O, Jaaaddeee. You coming or what? We have Nutty Smiley cornered."
Jade broke the gaze and I was once again deprived of those brown eyes.
"Coming!" She shouted back and joined the PGs.
She was smiling. Maybe it doesn't hurt her as much as it hurts me.
They say that if a person is bad, it shows on there face. That makes it easy for us to avoid that person, I guess. I will always wonder how Jade managed to be so damn pretty while having such a cold heart, dry ice seems like a joke.
I still stood there. Cody approached me with an annoying yet sweet concerned look.
"I saw what happened." He said. "What do you say? We get out of this shitty place and have the day to ourselves?"
"We cannot possibly jus-," I began to protest.
"You are way more more important to me than some shitty Algebra class. You've been pretending like you're alright. You aren't. Let's talk about your family for once. Let's- Let's talk about her for once. Please?"
I sighed and nodded.
I was about to get into my car but stopped. "You know what? Let's walk."
We were lying on the hill we used to visit. We could still smell the sweet perfume of the hills but apart from that, nothing was the same.
"So... Jade. Look, what I'm about to say is going to hurt but listen up. She's a bitch now, a cold hearted bitch. I know you have always liked her but... try to let go."
"Please don't say that about her. And I'm trying, alright?" I insisted.
"How about Natalie?"
"What about her?"
"Well, she cares about you and she would never hurt you like some people did.""
I paused it and looked up at Cody, who gave me a sweet and guilty kinda blush. I pressed play again.
""Wha-? No way, Cods. What even gave you that ridiculous idea?"
"Listen, Dylan! You can't ignore the good ones because of the bad ones. Would you ever ignore your Dad because of your Mom?"
"No, I guess not." I mumbled.
"Talking about which, how are matters at home?"
And just like that, we discussed the same things we've discussed about a thousand times before. I wanted to thank him for transitioning the conversation to my family. I knew he did it on purpose. We talked for a long time and then headed for our homes.""
The file ended.
"Well, Cody, 'a bitch' isn't a strong enough word to describe Jade." I turned to Cody.
He laughed.
"More like a pathetic motherfucker who does not deserve to live." I continued.
"No, please don't say that. Everybody deserves to live." Cody answered with pure wisdom. He was wrong because this particular person we were talking about didn't.
