SLOWLY, they tiptoed without making any sound, increasing their distance with the guard. though, in their hearts, only god could tell how fast their hearbeats were thumping.

"WAIT—"

"run!"

taehyung grabbed haewon's arm swiftly, leading her towards the emergency stairs, not giving a damn about the loud sound of the door slamming shut behind them.

they soon arrived to the rooftop, where nothing was in sight in particular, just cold, heavy breeze hitting their faces.

"are you sure we're safe here?" haewon asked, her eyes not leaving the emergency door.

"yep," he said.

"okay, honestly, taehyung." she now furrowed her eyebrows at him. "what was that?"

"what was what?"

"i thought we were clear!" haewon stated.

"i don't know! this one is a different guy. i thought there were only two people on watch for tonight and they were both sleeping!"

"holy shit, you really did some digging just to break into this mall."

"hey, admit it. it was fun, wasn't it?" taehyung grinned, as a few strands of hair fell into his face, but not decreasing the beauty of his smile evident on his face.

she finally broke out into a huge smile and screamed, "I'M FINALLY ALIVE!"

she huffed out a breath. "i feel so alive."

taehyung didn't say anything, but instead, he was admiring how lively her smile looked, how her eyes sparkled in the dead of the night, and he loved it. he loved how he made her feel alive, perhaps for the first time in many many years.

after a few minutes passed by, haewon realized how long taehyung had been watching her, and she thought he wanted to tell her 'i told you so'.

"hey, um, this was fun.. but, i'm not breaking into a mall again, okay?" she stared ahead, watching lights shone in the darkened streets.

taehyung laughed. "sure, whatever you say."

but their happiness wasn't that long, not until they both heard the sound of the door opening.

and by then, they knew they were too late.
