Chapter Four - Cloe
one week before the cheerleading competitions
We all stand clumped together on the bleachers. We are all biting our nails and glancing anxiously back and forth. We wait for our coach. All the cheerleading girls - Me, Stella, Lucy, Tiffany, Teresa, Penelope, Stacy, Lana, Gracie and Emily - are chattering away, wondering what the problem was "Girls, I'm scared. What if it is canceled? Then all this work is for nothing!" Stella exclaims nervously. "What if our team is so bad that we are not even allowed to join the qualifiying round?" Lucy questions with a terrified glance. " Or what if we are not allowed to cheer for the basketball team anymore? That would be horrible!" A worried Tiffany says. " Guys, We'll be fine! They said it was urgent, but not negative news, right?" I say as I try to soothe them. "The girl's got a point." Stacy remarks. Then there was a murmer of agreement. The tension soon is broken and everyone is just talking away again until a minute later when Coach arrives.
"Girls! I'm happy you could all make it to this meeting. As announced, it is pretty urgent." Coach's voice booms trough the megaphone. "C'mon Coach, tell us the prob" Teresa yells impatiently. "Sorry to worry you girls. It's not so bad actually, it is good as long as we practice until our muscles don't work anymore." She swallows, then continues to say: " A special agent from the Sports Talent Department came to watch a rehearsal, and noticed that you girls were so good that it was uneeded for you guys to do a qualifying round. Meaning that, you guys are immediatly going to the competitions in LA." Every single girls stays quiet, and the next thing I know, everyone is cheering, shouting, and exploding with happiness. "But.." Coach interrupts. " It starts in one week. So we gotta work our butts off. Every morning from 6:00 to 8:00, and everyday after school from 3:05 to 6:30. On weekends, we practice from 10:30 to 3:30." Everyone went from cheering to groaning. "But coach, that's not fair! That's too much work!" Stella complains. "Well young lady, it is very much needed, and if you miss more than three practices, you're out. This counts for everybody here." We all gasp. Coach is expecting way too much of us. "Coach really... this is too much, you can't-" Gracie is interupted by our angry coach. "It is only one week. That should not be enough to leave you melting in stress." We fall silent.
Lucy, the team captain, steps forward. " We will all attend every single practice, Coach." Lucy says. Coach grunts in response, but we could all see that satisfied look on her face. Oh god. Everyday. Twice a day. A whole week. Non- stop cheer leading practice! But I guess we have to follow our captain. Ugh. Great.
Chapter Four - Gracie
one week before the cheerleading competitions
After Coach shocked us with the news, all girls were kinda dazed. We did practice after school today, and we realized there is so much we have to do this week. Stress is building up on everyone, especially Lucy. Dang, she looks stressed. Well, I guess I can't blame her, I mean, after all, she has to write a whole speech about her team and the progress we made plus practice for the competition. Gosh, even though we are not close friends, I really do pity her. I am popular, but how come I'm not friends with Lucy, you ask? Well, that's simple.
Our social classes are divided like this: There are two classes of the nerds ( lowest ranking): the loser ones and the smart ones. The smart ones are higher than the loser ones, and they also are allowed to talk to populars for academic reasons. Next is the "common" people, also divided in two groups : nerdy and sporty/pretty . Nerdy is lower than sporty/pretty. Then we have the populars. There are two groups for girls: The Beauty Queens and The Sporty Queens. They are both equally popular. Me, Stacy, Penelope, Emily, and Lana are in the sporty clique. Lucy, Julie, Teresa, Stella, Cloe, and Tiffany are in the beauty clique. Then there is always the gamer guys and the sports guys. I know, our school is seriously messed up and very judgemental, but for some reason, everyone seems to be fine with it, even the nerds. Weird. Oh well.
Chapter Four - Lucy
six days until the cheerleading competitions
My routine for everyday of this week :
6:00 - 8:00 : Pratice for cheerleading comp.
8:20 - 3:00 : School. Ugh.
3:05 - 6:30 : More cheerleading practice.
6:40 - 7:00 : Eat dinner.
7:00 - 8:00 : Work on cheerleading speech.
8:00 - 8:30 : Work on costumes / make up for the cheerleading comp.
8:30 - 9:00 : Do homework.
9:00 - 10:00 : Shower and choose outfit for the next day.
10:00 - 10:01 : Free time! Yay!
10:01 - 5:30 - Sleep. Finally.
This is absolutely horrible. Most of my day is taken up by cheerleading - related events! This sucks! I'm so stressed, because as the team captain, it is my duty to do almost EVERYTHING. The team members are like babies, and I'm like the mother trying to care for them. Trust me, it's not easy. I sit on my pink bed staring at the ceiling. I can't get anymore ideas for the speech, so I decide to call my bestie Tiffany. Luckily, she picks up.
"Hey Tiff." I sigh.
"Hi! Everything ok? From the sound of your voice I can tell something is wrong." She responds.
"Yeah, I can't think of any speech ideas. Only six days left, and I didn't even finish the third sentence yet!"
"I'm coming over to help you. I'll be there in ten minutes!" She then hangs up. Gosh, she is such an awesome friend! This is typical Tiffany, always spontaniously offering to help you. I hurry to my fridge and grab some cupcakes that I baked the other day to share with Tiff. They are my specialties. Vanilla / chocolate cupcakes with a warm, gooey, ganache center. They are Tiff's absolute favorites, and she squeals everytime she sees them.
I put two of them on a delicate flowery plate, and fill two large mugs with hot coca. Tiff always loves how I put three pink and white marshmallows in the mug, so of course I reach into the bag of marshmallows, pulling out six fluffy, delicious marshmallows. As I am just about to go upstairs again, the doorbell rings. I scurry to the hall and open quicker than a cat pounches on a mouse.
"Hey, Tiff"
Tiffany stop and smells the air.
"Are those my favorite cupcakes I smell?"
"Yup."
"Omg omg, I have to have one!"
She runs towards the plate in the kitchen and starts nibbeling on her cupcake and sipping her hot cocoa. I walk over to join her. We stay quiet for a minute until she says, out of the blue, Tiffany says:
"Have you heard? Jack has a huge crush on someone on the cheerleading team, her name either starts with S, T, or L. He won't tell me more than that"
I freeze.
He likes Teresa.
