Chapter Twenty

Looking at the information on paper, Sophia was not impressed at the numbers they had. In any other circumstance, Sophia would have been certain of her pack’s victory, but after getting up close and personal with a lion, she had her doubts. But she knew that she would have to wait to see her new recruits before making her final judgment. She just hoped they were more impressive in person.

“Going over the numbers again?” Lukas asked. “Look any better this time?”

                “No.”

“It’s not all about the numbers,” he said. “I can’t even count the times I’ve been outnumbered.”

“You had the advantage of surprise and speed and strength. We don’t have that against the damn lions.”

“I’ve been working it through with Gabriel, and us wolves have some advantages over them. We are faster. And more agile. And we have more endurance. Also, they can’t use silver against us but we can use copper on them.”

“And then we’ve got all the extra non-wolves,” Sophia said. “But they’ll probably know that. I’m sure that Quinton’s got at least one person still here to feed information.”

“Is that why most of our pack’s not going to be here immediately?” Lukas asked. “What if he’s got someone in another pack?”

“I just have to hope that’s not the case,” Sophia said. “I doubt it. He didn’t really seem to ever have much connection outside of our pack. But who knows where people’s loyalties lie these days.”

“Well, I think someone’s here,” Lukas said, turning his head towards the door. “You gonna meet them or let Jason handle that?”

“I’d better go,” Sophia said. “Pikes Peak probably won’t expect me to be there, but anyone else might. Don’t want to piss anyone off until after we get rid of these damn lions. No offense Gabriel.” Until she had said that, she had forgotten that Gabriel was sitting in the corner of the room.

“What?” he asked, looking up at her.

“Nothing,” she said. “I’ll be back.”

She walked out the door of the gathering hall where they were having everyone meet and walked out into the lobby just in time to see a large group of wolves walking in, lead by Issac, the alpha of the Pikes Peak Pack.

“I was hoping you’d have your whole damn pack with you,” Sophia said.

“Because a large group of children would be helpful in a fight?” Issac replied. “But we do have one little surprise for you.”

                “Heavy artillery?”

“Close enough.” Issac glanced behind him and motioned to two of his people, one an older woman and the other a young man. Both were broad and muscular, and if nothing else, they certainly looked intimidating.  “This is Anita Murphy and her son, Andrew. They’re bears.”

“Bears?” Sophia asked, a smile on her face slowly appearing. “Good. Did you bring some tigers too?”

“I’m pretty sure there’s about two tigers on this entire continent,” Issac said.
