Chapter Fifteen
Originally, Sophia had planned on meeting with the higher-ranking pack members soon after the phone call with Victor, but once she realized Gabriel was her mate, she found she had more important things to do. After quickly informing Jason that she would be busy until the next day, she took Gabriel to her room.
Just like the first night they had been together, Sophia had allowed him to stay in the bed with her. She didn’t even need to tell him to stay; he knew his place was with her. Sophia liked the fact that he was being slightly bolder, no longer waiting for permission to do certain things. As much as she liked submissive partners, Gabriel was her mate and she wanted things to be different with him.
When Sophia woke up, she was still holding onto Gabriel, and she was very reluctant to leave him. She entertained the idea of dragging him into the shower with her just so she could have a little more time holding onto him, but eventually decided against that. She didn’t want to get too clingy, even if he was her mate. She let go of him and covered him with a blanket, then headed into the bathroom.
After showering and getting dressed, she looked over at Gabriel, still lying on the bed. She wanted to climb back in bed with him and hold him, but she resisted the temptation. However, she did sit down next to him and ran her hand through his dark blonde hair and gave him a quick kiss before heading out the door.
She had hoped that once she was no longer in his presence, she could concentrate on other things, but she still found her thoughts returning to Gabriel, lying naked in her bed. She wanted to go back to him and hold his warm body against her own, and once he woke up…
Forcing herself not to think about the lion or the things she wanted to do with him, she took her phone out. A merely special separation wasn’t going to keep her mind from wandering; she needed to make herself preoccupied with other things. Important things like running the pack.
Jason was the first person she called, and while she considered telling him the news over the phone, she preferred to do it in person, so she asked him to come over. Because she didn’t tell him what it was about, Jason said he’d call up the rest of the people who they had originally planned on consulting about the lion business. As much as she didn’t want to deal with that at the moment, she knew it might be better to just get it over with.
Sophia called up a few other pack members she wanted to be present, and with the exception of Lukas, everyone she called said they were on their way. Lukas had to be at work and couldn’t make it. Sophia wanted him to be there, since she was certain she could rely on his support. If nothing else, he could bring rational thought to any discussion.
Half an hour later, as people were starting to show up, Sophia heard the water running upstairs. Gabriel must have woken up. As much as she wanted to be near him, she wasn’t sure it was such a great idea for him to be present at the meeting. While some of the wolves were okay with him, she knew some of the others weren’t.
As she looked around, she saw that only one of the anti-Gabriel wolves was present. Valerie was sitting on a chair, looking down at her phone. Sophia wondered if perhaps she was in contact with the other two, Quinton and Troy.
Two wolves, Sophia wasn’t sure about. While she was fairly certain that both Oliver and Patrick would stand behind her and whatever she decided to do, she couldn’t be entirely sure about them. Oliver she thought might be too easily swayed, and Patrick might decide that she didn’t have the pack’s best interest in mind. While he was loyal, she knew he wouldn’t do anything that he felt would be a betrayal to the pack.
