A/N: (This song is amazing) But anyways, I imagined it that this song would be playing on the radio during the... well... I can't spoil it for you. Listen to ittt. During the main point of the chapter. IDK if it will make sense to you. Gosh I need to stop rambling. Just read.
-------------------------------------------------
"Oh my gosh! I remember all of these streets!" I sound like a giddy five year-old. We had been on the highway for about thirty minutes and I keep spotting signs for 'Dayton' and 'Vandalia'. I just feel it deep down in my brain that I know these places.
"Okay. That's good." Maddy says from the seat next to me, and he sounds annoyed. Is it the fact that I've said 'I remember these places' more times than he has fingers and toes? Gee, I really just don't know. I hope my sarcasm is noticeable and not just in my head. I take an exit that looks familiar and am greeted by more familiar roads. We are now scootin' down an empty road shaded by trees that filter the sunlight.
"Sorry. I'm just excited. I am remembering where I am from! This is exciting, Maddy!" I say after a couple minutes.
"Mhmm." He grunts to the window. He sounds... angry?
"Uh... Maddy... you okay?" I hesitate, but decide to ask.
"Mhmm."
"Oh, c'mon, you can be honest with me." My words protest.
"Mhmm."
"Maddy." No I'm annoyed.
"Hmm?"
"Oh my stars! Can you form actual words?!" I say and he whips around to face me.
"How may I assist you, your oh-mighty highness?" He snaps, "Is that English enough for you!?"
My eyes find his and his ocean eyes look like a hurricane. I feel my eyes widen like saucers and my mouth drop in a slight cartoonish 'o'. His brows slightly furrow for a second as he takes in what just happened, but they go back to being blank along with the rest of his expression. Confusion flashes across his face and he softens a little. I accidentally swerve the car a little from looking at him and not the road, and I tear my eyes away from him and focus on the road. I sit up straight and rigid and my fingers harshly clasp against the steering wheel. I let my sort-of-growing short hair fall around my face so I can't see Maddox in my peripheral vision. I don't know what made him snap like that. Now I am kinda angry, too. Did I say something in my sleep? Gosh. I don't recall doing anything to provoke him like this. Maybe I accidentally asked a psychopathic schizoid to go on an escape adventure with me and this is my payment. Nonetheless, I feel tears spring to my eyes, hot and frustrated.
Like five minutes later I feel Maddox shift next to me.
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't of- I don't know what happened. I just... I am stressed. Sorry."
"It's fine. You made your point clear that you are angry. Just let it be." I say to the windshield, refusing to look at him. I tried to keep my voice steady and hard but it still cracks on the last sentence.
"Belle, I didn't mean to be rude I'm sorry."
"Its whatever. I accept your apology."
"Okay... Look at me Ariel."
"I need to pay attention to the road." We are now on a busier road with cars moseying along.
"Then pull over!" He almost shouts.
"We are on a tight schedule."
" Sorry. I am just thinking about my sisters and family, the guy I knew that I killed the other day, the one who tried to kidnap you. And how crazy it is that I am travelling with you and well, you. Just other stuff and it is all built up and I just kinda lost control. I'm sorry." He is slumped in the seat next to me but still, his face and body are turned to me.
"It's okay. I am stressed, too. I just need to get home and then I will drive with you until we find your home. Okay?"
"Okay. Thank you, Belle. I appreciate it." He moves his hand across and places it on my thigh.
(A/N: Song starts playing here?? IDK!)
I start driving through an intersection, and I look over at Maddy, into his eyes and I can feel my cheeks heat.
Lord, his eyes really are breathtaking.
You know when something really bad happens in a movie and the camera makes everything slow-motion?
His eyes shift past my face in slow-motion and terror strikes across his face in slow-motion.
I blink. I try to turn my face. His hands push my face into his chest.
His arms are around me and as much as he can from the passenger seat, he tries to put his body in front of mine, shielding me from the door.
In slow-motion, an immeasurably heavy force slams into the driver's side of our small little car.
Glass pushes into my back and I feel warm liquid s l o w l y pouring down my back from the hit areas.

Our car spins on the road in an ellipse towards somebody's yard.
Maddy goes limp, arms still protecting me.
My door smashes in and crushes us.
"Maddy." I whisper, but it is lost in the deafening slow-motion crash.
