The silence grew longer as no one bothered to answer the question in Maths. "Anyone in here catch your eye?" Ally whispered to me and raised one eyebrow. I giggled quietly before answering, "Nah not really, the lack of attractive boys here is depressing! What about you?" I ask in reply. "Oh me? I have a boyfriend," she chuckled, "He's called Michael Clifford and he's laavely." "Ooooo, I can't wait to meet him one day!" I wiggled my eyebrows at her.
I walked out of Art, one of the only lessons I don't have with Ally, Sienna or Fern and followed the smell of school lasagna to the lunch hall. The school wasn't anything special, but by far better than the one I attended in England, not only was it a horrible building but the people were horrible too. Everyone hated me there; even my parents didn't seem to care. My parents. I didn't want to think about them ever again because of what they put me through, but they come into my head far more often than I wanted them too. In a weird, twisted way, I missed them. I missed mum's cooking and when dad took me shopping on Saturdays. Yet I hated the fact that they were never there, they never listened, they never cared.
"Melody! Over here!" I heard Sienna call before I saw her hand up and waving at me. I smiled and made my way through the maze of tables and sat down getting my sandwich from my bag.
"Ew, is that marmite?!" Fern asked narrowing her eyes. We always had this argument, whether marmite or vegemite was better. I've always argued marmite but the other three seem to disagree strongly.
"Yes. Yes it is. And as I've said before, it is way better than vegemite will ever be." I smirked back at her, she glowered at me and I glowered back until we both started giggling.
"Anyway," Ally interrupted our fit of laughter, "we are going shopping tomorrow, and we wondered if you wanted to come with us?" I looked at all three of them smiling at me, they were truly nice people, I've never had any proper friends, and if this is what it felt like, I'm happy, for one of the first times in my life.
"Of course! I'd love to!" I grinned back.
"Okay we are meeting at 11 by Urban Outfitters. Also, Ally's boyfriend is coming, so we're glad to have another girl to keep us company, and I'm warning you now, they can get very lovey-dovey." Sienna told me with a giggle. I glanced at Ally who was shaking her head furiously denying that they never showed 'public affection' very often. I just laughed to myself and watched the three people that had become my best friends chat and laugh.
Opening the front door I called to my Auntie to let her know I was home, and to my surprise, she appeared in the Kitchen doorway offering me cake and a cup of tea. I took them gratefully but gave her a look of confusion.
"Are you okay?" I asked, "What's all this for? You didn't have to." I smiled. I followed her gaze to the table where a letter sat on its on. I glanced back at my auntie and she nodded, telling me it was mine. I made my way to the table and placed my cup and cake on the table. I picked up the letter in both my hands praying that it wasn't what I thought it was. I didn't want to be reminded. But I'd recognize that handwriting anywhere. Mum's. I hurriedly placed the letter on the table and walked away quickly.
"I'm not opening it." I stated.
"Melody, I know you don't want to but-"
"I'm going to my room." I muttered before she could get in another word, I didn't want to here any pity towards my parents, they don't deserve it.
"I'll keep it so you can r-" I slammed the door before she could finish her sentence. I stomped upstairs and ran into my room, dumping my stuff on the floor and lying down on my bed, burying my face into the pillow. The tears started to spill as much as I didn't want them to. Why does mum have to try and ruin my life here? She already ruined the one I had in London.
