As I stood, puffed, sweaty and in pain, I stretched my arm out and moved it backwards over my head for the seventh time, restarting my complex routine.
Jumping and twirling, leaping and swinging, my body ached with physical exertion as I slid back and forth across the stage. I finished with my head bowed and my thin arm rigid, gripping my left elbow with white knuckles.I collapsed back onto the hard wood, and heaved, tracing the ceiling with my eyes. It was dark and foreboding, only four lights flickering depressingly on my decorated face. I lazed to my side, staring into the eerie lines of seats placed side by side. They caught me right back in the eye, making me self-conscious. I laid there for a while, just until my breaths softened and evened themselves.
Then, with no mind, I stretched out my tight limbs and strolled to the device, clicking my fingers to a familiar beat. I found the song, the slow start building tension as I swung back to the near-centre of the old stage. The passionate lyrics blasted to life and boomed around me. I started, my tired arm pushing upwards and through the air while my weak knees kicked and bent. My sore, slouching back straightened, and my throbbing headache receded.
I started to twist across the hard floor, my complicated movements flew my mind to space. I was on Jupiter, shaking the whole planet, invincible. My eyes bled with bliss, while my excited grin steamed with adrenaline.
But then I spun the wrong way, and my neck hit the wood. I groaned in pain, bullets of hurt piercing my bones. I rolled from side to side in a burst of knives and needles. The pain eased away slowly, but never completely left, leaving me aching. But I forced myself to stand, and I forgot my former great passion.
As I stood, puffed, sweaty and in pain, I stretched my arm out and moved it backwards over my head for the eighth time, restarting my complex routine.
