Karma (Chapter Four)

“Wake up!” A hooded figure in front of me screeches with an annoyingly nasally voice, I cringe when my brain connects the voice with a person. It's Aurora, the girl who hates me with such wrath it would be capable of burning down a building. I moan aloud as I feel the full pain of a massive headache, probably from the remnants of the chemicals that I had indigested.

“I told you to wake up,” she yells before slapping me full across the face, her slaps are weak, due to her lack of food I suppose, her hands shake and tremble out of not only anger, but malnourishment as well. I open one eye to see Rose and Julia tied to chairs beside me with a gag in their mouth. It pisses me off more than that fact that she slapped me, I mean c’mon kidnapping me and my friends, that crosses the line. I smile widely when I think of what’s going to happen when the others find out, what’s going to happen when I get out of this rope. Let’s just say that Aurora is going to get a hell of a whooping, I guess those Judo classes will end up paying off.

Aurora starts ranting about how awesome and superior she is, and how minuscule I am. Does she even know what half of those words mean? I shake my head softly whilst surveying the environment around me. I am in a dimly lit room that smells like a mixture of wet dog and bodily waste; I see stacks of pop in the corner and a dull axe probably used for chopping wood in the corner. The floor is pooled with liquid, hopefully water, and a worn cot is in the corner.

Aurora takes off my gag as she removes her hood, the apocalypse has done its toll on her appearance, her usually pin-straight hair is tangled, and her eyes that were previously perfectly lined with black have smeared, her lips clear of gloss, in their place a patch of cold sores. The usually put-together Aurora is now a hideous mess, I almost feel bad for her...almost.

“What are you staring at you little -” she screams before slapping me once more, I swear, if I wasn’t tied up I would hit her so hard her plastic face would wipe right off.

All sympathy towards her had dissolved within a second; actually it would be a stretch to say there even was any in the beginning.

Then she composes herself and smiles wickedly, “My brother; Noah and his friends can take care of you... Noah, Get over here." It may seem juvenile but I have to suppress a laugh at the sound of Aurora’s voice. Is it possible that it she has gotten even more annoying in the short minute that has passed? As I ponder the situation before me I hear a muffled scream; Rose has awoken.

I quickly whisper in her direction to be quiet, she ignores me and continues to scream. It is Noah who finally shuts her up with a kick to the face, I wince as she lets out a whimper and I feel like kicking Noah in his man-area when I see the purple bruise blossoming on Rose’s face. I refrain myself, not like I could anyway, after all I am the one tied up. Aurora struts pasts me, acting as if she is some sort of supermodel, trying to show off a false air of confidence.

I close my eyes defiantly, trying to shake the horrid picture of Aurora as a supermodel out of my head. “Open your eyes you ugly -”

I laugh, “You calling me ugly?” I defiantly question.  “Hon, take a look in the mirror;” I can see the smile form on Rose’s face at the sound of my comeback. Aurora’s head looks like it is about to explode.

“You, you, you!” While she seems to be having a mental breakdown, I work on untying my hands.

“Julia!” She shrieks “Wake up!” Julia (was) Aurora’s best friend until she turned into a major psychopath, (not that she wasn’t before.)  She is clingy and a Class A- well… you finish the sentence. Aurora has a habit of manipulating people and as well as the fact that she is a pathological liar. Although, I knew she was crazy I didn’t know she was capable of kidnapping.  To say I was in a bad mood would be an understatement. I was utterly miserable, and was going to personally throw Aurora off a cliff after this ordeal (figuratively speaking,) or not.  After a few minutes my hands are untied and other then the stinging pain from the multiple slaps to my face I am fine. Aurora has untied Julia’s hands and Julia is frantically and inconspicuously sending sign-language in my direction. She tells me to make a run for it.

I nod, “Aurora,” I yell in her direction, she gives me a look of disgust before turning around.

“What do you want?” She asks, annoyed.

“Look,” I scream loudly, she turns only to get her feet kicked out from underneath her. She is about to scream when a look of utter horror enters her mouth. Her last words are inaudible; the once popular, mean, egotistical Aurora is gone. Her face is pale and white, blood drips down the side of her mouth; it takes me a second to figure it out. That is when I see the hand through her chest; her heart has literally been ripped out. Karma has its way of getting to you, it looks like her time is up.
