~Two Weeks After Double G's Funeral~
"Oh. My. God." Babe exclaims to the person standing by the door. At that moment, everything that Babe was worrying about disappeared. Maybe to Babe, this was a good thing ever since everything happened. But deep down inside Kenzie knew that this would only make everything worse.
Babe completely lets go of Kenzie and rushes to the person at the door. She grabs onto the person's wrists and looks into their eyes. "It is you..." Babe whispers, tears forming at the corners of her eyes. She brings the person into a hug and starts to cry into their shirt.
As Kenzie watches, what used to be surprise is now replaced with disappointment. For once Kenzie was able to stop having mental breakdowns and finally hold Babe in her arms. Everything was going correctly. But good luck has never stood on Kenzie's side before. Kenzie shakes her head at the sight and turns away. She digs her face into a pillow on the couch and silently cries into it, as she knows that all her hard work had gone to waste in a matter of seconds.
Meanwhile, Babe is still situated at the entrance, still hugging the person that just arrived. Not bothered by Babe's reaction towards them, the person smiles and wraps their arms around the girl, happy. "Don't cry. As long as I'm here, everything will be fine."
Babe chuckles through her tears and eventually looks up. The person uses their soft hands and wipes the rest of the tears from Babe's face. Babe nods, smiling at the person in front of her, "I know...as long as you're here, I won't."
The person grins at the agreement from Babe, once again bringing Babe into the hug that Babe has been waiting to receive since forever.
Kenzie continues to block out the sound of her sobbing with the pillow. Kenzie knows that the downfall of their friendship was especially because of her. Ever since Kenzie started ignoring everyone because of her feelings, Babe had always thought that everything was her fault. That maybe Babe did something wrong that made Kenzie like this.
Secretly, Babe was true. If it weren't for Babe, Kenzie wouldn't have fallen in love and Kenzie wouldn't have had to deal with the stress of loving her best friend. But at the same time, Babe was the only reason Kenzie is still smiling today. Babe was the only person left to help her escape the pressure of the world. Babe was Kenzie's escape. But Kenzie ended making Babe the reason she needed Babe in the first place. To Kenzie, the only way of fixing this friendship was Kenzie, and Kenzie alone.
But maybe Kenzie was right. If it had only been Kenzie in the picture, then maybe she'd be able to fix Babe's broken confidence and this broken friendship. Maybe Kenzie alone would have been able to stitch up this badly ripped friendship. But no matter what, Kenzie had to do it alone.
And ever since the person who stepped back into the Game Shakers Building after leaving the city for so long and betraying Babe's feelings, Kenzie knew that everything she has ever hoped and planned for to rebuild this friendship was now tossed into the trash.
Kenzie makes the mistake and turns around, only to see the two continue to embrace each other. A deep lump forms in Kenzie's throat as remorse and regret wash over her. If Kenzie had locked the door and didn't let that person come in, everything would have gone to plan. Because not only is Kenzie in the picture, Mason is now there too.
