"I'm gonna get there first!!" Obi says.
"Nuh-uh, I am!" I say as we both race to base camp.
"Ah, you guys are finally back." Boss says, sounding a little annoyed.
"Sorry we took so long! This snail of a girl took 10 minutes to clean her daggers." Obi says, pointing at me.
     That little... Buttface!!
"Right! It's not like you had to clean yours, you didn't help me at all!!" I declare truthfully.
"That's-it's - you did it while I wasn't there!" Obi says to defend himself.
"That's quite enough, you two." Boss states with a sharp tone.
"Yes, Boss.." Obi and I say in unison.
"I've got another job for you both." Boss says, handing us a piece of paper. We both run off into the forest, knowing that Boss doesn't like questions about the job. I read it.
     "R-rank A criminal?!" I say, terrified.
"Piece of cake!" Obi declares, also sounding nervous.
"You better not die on me, Obi..." I say quietly to myself.
"Never! I promise you, I'll never leave you for any purpose! We'll do this together. How hard can it be?" Obi clarifies with unease in his voice. Nonetheless...
"Yeah..! You're right. How hard can it be?" I say, smiling along with Obi.

     ...

I jerk up from bed. Just a dream.. a flashback. I wake up in the guest room.... Right, they let me sleep here. Guess I was so tired I didn't remember walking to the guest room.. I hear a soft sound, like the tapping of feet, by my window.

"What do you want, Obi?" I say groggily.
"Good morning! Or more like afternoon.." Obi says, snickering.
"Shut up!" I stammer, and I would have punched him in the arm if I wasn't still groggy and tired.
"Alright, alright. ... Are you gonna accept the job?" Obi says as his tone stiffens with anticipation.
"Probably." I say with a smile on my face.
I see his face light up, the loner. Excited, he says "R-really?" Ah, dumb cat. I was so tempted to say "No," just to see his reaction.

However, I say "Yup, most likely. How could I turn down free food?" It was true, wasn't it? Free food isn't something you can just pass up.
"Hah, right. You've always loved food." Obi says, a detectable bit of nostalgia in his eyes.
"Yeah. Too bad that back then we didn't get much to eat," I complain.
"True," he says. "You always made me buy you snacks with the money I got."
"Heh, yeah. Hey, how old are you now, 25?" I ask, going with the nostalgic mood.
"Yeah.. I'm 25 now." Obi states quietly.
"So we've known each other for 20 years now.." I say, counting in my head.
"Yeah. ... How long were you alone with boss and the others?" He says, curious.
"B-boss abandoned the others and took me away from them... Th-three years." I say, not wanting to ramble about the past.
"Three years. Good on ya, snail." He says as he flicks my forehead.
"H-hey! Call me that again and I won't work here." I say, threatening him.
"So is your decision of working here final?" He asks, ignoring my threat.
"Yes, but don't tell Zen yet. I might change my mind," I say, glaring at him. "Anyways, I need to stretch out my muscles again."
I stand up, startling him. I then walk over to the window, and climb onto it. Before I jump, I say "Peace out, Cat!" The guest bedroom is only on the first floor of the castle, so I should be fine. I land on my feet, and leap into a tree. My legs ache, but I don't care. I hear the quiet thumping of Obi chasing after me.
"Catch me if you can, idiot!" I say as I jump to another tree. However, as I'm jumping, I look over at Obi, not seeing the clearing in front of me. As I jump again, I am met with empty air, and I land on my butt, on the floor.
"Oww.." I say, still processing what happened. Obi quickly catches up to me, and lands next to me, on his feet.
"Who's the idiot now?" He says, pointing at me mockingly. The little chipmunk..! I stand up, and walk into the middle of the clearing, ignoring him. I spin around with my arms out from my sides, and say "The air around this castle feels so clean!"
"I suppose so," Obi says. "You'll be getting used to it."
"I suppose I will," I say, mocking his sudden formal tone. "Okay, I've decided. Let's go tell Zen." I see excitement dance in Obi's eyes. I can imagine him thinking "finally," the idiot.
So we both head back inside and walk to Zen's office.
"Y/N! Have you made your decision?" Zen asks, sounding excited.
"Yes. I'll be your aide." I say, swallowing my nervousness.
"Great! Remember to go to the test three weeks from now. I'm sure you'll do great!" Zen says assuringly.
"Yeah, I'm sure I will." I say confidently. Me and Obi exit the room.
"So, you wanna exercise for the test?" Obi says with a dumb grin on his face.
"You bet! Race ya to the town coffee shop!" I challenge, getting pumped up.
"Oh it's on!" Obi says, smiling brightly. .. I missed that dumb grin of his. We both jump out the nearest window, and charge into the forest to Sorenville. So far, I'm in the lead, as I took a shortcut. As I make it into Sorenville, I see the large sign above the coffee shop, reading "BrewIt". I charge into the building, ready to laugh in Obi's face when he gets here later. But, what I see is Obi sipping a coffee at a table. How?!
"Oh, hey C/N(your cover name). You finally made it." Obi says smugly.
"H-how did you?!-" I say, surprised and amazed.
"Snail!" Obi says, sticking his tongue out at me. Grr....

     I'll get him next time.
