Better Than I Remembered

     "How did you get here so fast?!" Y/N asks as she sits down across from me.
     "A shortcut. Faster than the one you took, snail." I say truthfully. ... I can always be truthful around her... It's amazing, I haven't thought much about Shirayuki since I found her. Maybe I'm finally free from it.. that'd be a miracle.
     "Cat, you ok? You went silent." Y/N says, worried.
     "Yeah, I'm fine." I say, pausing my thoughts. Suddenly, she gets a weird grin on her face. What is she about to say?
     "Thinking about Shirayuki?" She says with a nosey sounding voice.
     "Wha-No... It's just been a while." I say, entirely truthfully.
     "I guess," she says. "... Don't disappear again.." she finishes quietly.
     "... I won't." I say, never wanting to make that decision again. She looks surprised, I guess she didn't think I'd hear her. I get her a coffee, and we both spend the next half-hour talking. ... It was very strange. I usually hate to talk about my past, or even me.. but with her I feel fine. I mean, I have known her since I was 6... .. we both leave the shop, and race eachother back to the castle. It really is fun being immature like this.. I haven't felt like this since I got a position here. I mean, I've been annoying, but this is definitely different.

     Y/N's Pov
Obi has been pretty quiet.. I wonder what's up. Maybe it's just because I found out about his love situation.
He tells me he's gonna go ask Zen if there's any jobs to do. I just wait in the hallway, with nothing to do. Suddenly, Shirayuki comes along and asks me how I'm doing.
     "Oh, Shirayuki! I'm doing fine, that medicine really helped!" I say, surprised.
     "That's good. It's about time we change the bandages. While you're waiting for Obi, would you like to do that?" She asks, a cute but sophisticated smile on her face. I could see how Obi might like her. She seems to be straightforward and honest. A good quality for sure. I answer with a yes, and we both go to that tiled room again. I sit down as she removes my clothing and rewraps my bandages. The first time she did this I was uncomfortable, but I feel much more used to it now. We simply chat about random stuff while she changes the bandages. I feel a bit like a child, not knowing how to change my own bandages, but it looks tricky. She unwraps a bandage, grabs a new one, and puts liquid on it. Then she carefully traps the liquid by folding the bandage into a cup, and then quickly but gently slaps it back on to me, then wraps it. I'm not sure why she doesn't put the ointment on me, then take the bandage, but I'm sure she has her reasons.
    
     When she finishes, I get up and walk back to the hallway, not knowing what to do. But the air is stuffy in here... I jump out a window into a tree, as this is second-floor. Then I jump from tree to tree for a little while. Suddenly, I hear someone calling "C/N! C/N!" Cat. Ironically, he is the only one who knows my cover name, when it really should be that he is the only one who knows my real name. I run to the source of the voice. Yup, definitely cat.

     "What is it?" I say, confused at why Obi came looking for me. He knows I do this from time to time.. so..
     "Y/N! There you are! I've been looking for you," he says.
     "Yeah, but why?" I ask, annoyed that I had to repeat my question.
     "Well, I have a job from Zen, but he wants you to help me as a trial." He says, in matter-of-factual tone. ... Wait what?
     "Wait seriously?" I say, surprised Zen would trust me with a job this soon.
     "Yeah.. don't worry, it's not hard. He just wants you to help me watch Shirayuki." He says, looking away for some reason.
     "Are you her bodyguard or something?" I joke.
     "Actually, I am," He brags. "She's tending to the court garden right now."
     "Huh, alright," I start, thinking about how Shirayuki has helped me over these few days. "Well, what're we waiting for?" I finish, heading off in the direction of the court garden. Suddenly, I feel hands grab my shoulder, and Obi says, "wrong way, idiot." So much for acting smart.

     He redirects me, and we head to the court garden. I see Shirayuki pouring powder, which I assume is fertilizer, into the water distribution system. It looks fancy. We walk through the clear glass doors of the giant glass dome.
     "Miss!" Obi calls out, grabbing Shirayuki's attention. Miss? Yet another weird title. 'Master' and 'Miss'. Interesting..

     We both head over to Shirayuki, and watch her do her work. I see Obi helping her pick some type of fruit. They both are wearing masks, Shirayuki said the smell intoxicates people. But suddenly, I see Obi rip her mask off. What the..?! Is he crazy? Shirayuki just sits blankly for a moment, as Obi apologizes. Man, he must've fallen for her hard. It's too bad Shirayuki is with Zen.

     A few hours later, Shirayuki finishes her work, and leaves me and Obi alone.
     "Why did you pull the mask off her?" I question him, intent for an answer.
     "I really don't know! Suddenly just happened..." Obi replies, scratching his neck. He always scratches his neck when he's nervous.
     "You've definitely fallen for her, right?" I say, sure of my guess. He sighs, defeated. Knew it.
 
     "Yeah.. was it that obvious?" Obi says, in a voice I've never heard before. Defeated, guilty, and anxious. I suddenly feel bad for the cat.
     "Don't worry, I won't tell anyone." I say, smirking to hide my worry.

     "You're worried, aren't you?" He says, his voice changing from defeated to confident. Dang it. Dumb cat knows me as well as I know him.
     "Yeah! .. she's already with Zen!" I say, confessing.
     "That's fine," he sighs. "I'm happy with where I am." He finishes, smiling brightly. What in the..?!
     "I suppose if that's how you feel about it, then it's your problem." I say mischievously.

     Shirayuki's Pov
     I was sorting the medicine I hurriedly grabbed for Y/N's wounds.. she healed remarkably fast. Two broken ribs, a broken wrist, and stab wounds all over her body. Yet, she's already running around with Obi. I smile to myself. It's good that Obi has a partner now. I was worried he was lonely... But then, why do I feel so weird when she's around him?      

     Ahh, it's probably just because he has always been alone from the day I met him.. it's just me getting used to the new member. That's all.

Your POV
We both head back to the castle, and see Shirayuki just sitting there, staring out a window.
     "What's up, Shirayuki?" I say, that mischievous grin still on my face.
     "Aa-ah nothing..!" Shirayuki replies, looking at us in surprise.
     "Oh really? Thinking about what Zen's doing right now?" I conclude, based on the look on her face.
     "Yeah, I bet!" Obi accuses along with me, smiling devilishly.
She simply replies with a "maybe", and goes on her marry way. Me and Obi both look at each other, and suddenly burst out laughing. Worst part is, I don't even know why. With a chuckle, Obi says "ah, that look on her face!!".
     "I know! Like we were accusing her of murder or something!" I say, still laughing.

     We continue to laugh for a bit, and then head to Zen's office, for no apparent reason. We enter Zen's office and he gives us yet another job.
     "I was gonna get you guys, but looks like you came to me," Zen starts with a chuckle. "There's a group of bandits who keep on sneaking in our garden and taking herbs at night. We haven't found them yet, so I'd like it if you two located them. Don't fight them or anything, just locate them and watch 'em for a bit. Got it? Y/N, consider this a part of the test."

     Obi's Pov
     As soon as Zen finishes talking, Y/N nearly yells "Got it," and jumps out a window. A faint "race ya to the garden!" can be heard from a distance. Oh it's on. As I follow her out the window, I hear Zen chuckle. I quickly catch up to her. I am following just behind her when she slips and falls. "Ha, this is my chance." I think, but as I am about to pass over her in the trees, I slip too, and fall on top of her. Whoops. I hear her yell "Darn it, get off me you fat cat!" Just to annoy her, I sit on her a little longer, and then get up and take off in front of her. She catches up, and trips me.
     "Hah!" She yells as she charges in front of me.
     "You'll pay for that, cheater!" I yell as I get up and chase after her.
.... Now I fully remember what I was missing while she wasn't here.
This is honestly so much better than I remembered.
