CHAPTER 5

My heart felt like it jumped out of my body and ran away. It's glowing red eyes stared directly into mine. All of a sudden the demon drops dead. I look down and see the hilt of a blade sticking out of the demon. Jason appears next to me, pulls the blade out, and wipes the demon's green slimy blood, on his pants.

I stared at the demon for about ten seconds, and suddenly visions, which strangely felt like memories came rushing through my brain. I was running down Boulevard Street last night, from a creature exactly like this one. Then Jason's face flashed into my head again.

I turned to him "You! You did something to me, that's why I can't remember!" At first he looked caught of guard, but he quickly covered it up "Me? What did I do!" He shouted. I didn't want to sound crazy by explaining everything that happened, so I decided to try to get him to tell me stuff without telling him exactly what.

"What is that..thing?!" I pointed to the monstrosity in front of me. "I don't know" Jason mumbled. "You're lying!" I shouted, "what is it?!" I asked once again. He simply turned the other way. "Answer me!" I screamed getting angry. "Fine! It's a demon!" He shouted. My heart sunk at his answer. I didn't know what i expected to hear, but I was secretly hoping it wasn't that.

His expression suddenly softened, "C'mon let's get you home" he said. "No!" I yelled at him. "Not before you tell me what is going on, I think we both know that you did something to me, and that's why I can't remember what happened last night." Way to not sound crazy I thought to myself. "Okay fine..I will tell you" he said to me "but we have to talk at your house, not out here in the open". I looked at my watch, it read 4:30, my mom would be home at 5. "Let"s go".

15 minutes later we stood in front of my door. As I searched for my keys, I told Jason that my mom would soon be home, so he would have to leave, after a while. We went inside and as we sat on the couch, my mom came down from her room. My heart skipped a beat.

"Mom, what are you doing here?" I squeaked. "Well it is my house" she said, looking slightly amused. What is it? There's nothing amusing about this situation. "You know what I mean. Why are you home so early?"

"Well, I felt sick, so I came home".

"Oh, okay". I replied I had a feeling my mom was lying to me, but didn't press the matter.

"So who's your friend?" She asked looking at Jason.

"There's no use lying to her Veronica", he replied, for the first time I noticed how angry he looks. "How do you know my mom's name?" I asked. "Because your mom knew my dad, they worked together".

I turned to my mom, she looked angry, and her face was beet red. "I didn't want to speak about this now, but I will, so I will get some snacks, and we'll discuss it then". I didn't really want snacks right now, but my mom clearly wasn't in the mood to argue, so I remained quiet.

As soon as my mom left the room, I turned to Jason. "I'm not gonna like this, am I?" He looked at me and shook his head "Nopes, you most certainly won't." I sighed.

My mom returned with the snacks, placed them on the table, and sat on the couch across from us. All of us sat staring at each other for a good five minutes until my mom broke the silence. "So, Jan... What do you want to know?" She seemed nervous. My mom was never nervous. She was always super confident, and brave, that made me more curious to know what it is.

"Well, what are those things that keep attacking me? Well, Jason said they're demons, but how could it be? Why can't I remember last night? Why..." I get cut off by my mom. "Whoa, whoa, slow down. One at a time". I took a deep breath and began again.

"Those so called demons, what do they want from me, and why me?" I asked slightly afraid of the reply.

"Well you are very special." Jason said.

"Yes you are" my mom interjected. "You come from two very powerful persons, your father" her voice caught in her throat, "was one of the most powerful... How do you say it, um, human appointed by the angels" she suddenly stopped talking, not completing her sentence.

Jason began "Your father was one of the many humans, that were appointed by the angels of the heavens to help fight all the evils on earth. They were called the chosen ones". He stopped to look at me to see how i was taking the news, which by how I was feeling I was pretty sure a shocked look was plastered on my face.

He continued "Your mother here," he said looking at her. She still looked deep in thought. "Is a white witch".

I started hyperventilating. "Jan, Jan" I kept hearing voices calling my name, but they seemed so far away.Take deep breaths, i said to myself and my breathing gradually got back to normal. "Okay, I'm fine now". I looked up to see Jason's worried expression. His dark brown eyes trained on mine. They had me captivated.

"Are you sure?" He asked. "Ye...yeah i'm sure" I stuttered back. He slightly smiled at me "Do you want to hear more, or another time?"

"Now is fine" I smiled back at him.

"Okay, but that was the normal part of the story. The crazy part is just beginning!" He said grinning. I was suddenly very afraid, of what was coming.

"Let's get started then".
