Leigh's POV

I was sitting in the library during lunch time, reading a book for my English class. I hate reading. Normally I'd pick food over boring literature any day, but last night me and, pretty much my only friend got into a fight. And instead of looking like a loser sitting alone in the cafeteria, I'm hiding in here. Reading my boring book. Well, looking at it, anyways. In reality I was daydreaming about being anywhere but here. School. I never saw the use in it.

"Hello?"

I jumped. Sitting in front of me at my round table was a girl I've never seen before. She had light brown hair and big brown eyes and was wearing all black.

"You looked like you were thinking pretty hard about something there," she said, amusement written all over her face.

"Yes, I was getting very into my book.. it's good." I replied, feeling like I had to defend myself.

"It must be. You've been staring at the same page for the last ten minutes."

I pursed my lips. "Do you have a habit of spying on people in the library?"

"I do what I gotta do to entertain myself." She gave me a half smile and I was left speechless for a minute. "I'm an assistant here this hour. I haven't seen you in here before." I knew she was silently asking why I was here. Of course, I didn't want to tell her the real reason, so I just said I'm behind on my reading for class. I could tell she didn't believe me. Probably because my second of hesitation, but thankfully she didn't say anything about it.

"You want some jellybeans??"

I blinked. "Um... what?"

"Jellybeans," she repeated. Then out of nowhere she was holding a big bag of them in my face. "Do you want some?" She said it slowly like she was talking to a child.

"Uh, yeah... sure." I hesitantly reached into the bag and took a few. "These aren't drugged, are they?" I asked, popping them into my mouth before she could answer.

"Well, you clearly don't care either way." She replied with a smile. "Who do you think would win in a fight: Donald Duck, or Daffy Duck? I've been thinking about it all day."

"Alright, who are you?" I demanded. I think I just accepted candy from a crazy person. So far, she's the most random girl I've ever met.

She put a big smile on her face, rocked back in her chair and said,

"I'm Jade. And who might you be?"

"Leigh," I answered hesitantly.

"Pleasure to meet you, Leigh. I'm looking forward to being your friend." She stuck her hand out over the table and I shook it, a little dazed. I stared at her, trying to see if she was being sincere, our hands still clasped. She just looked back at me, a slight but honest smile on her lips. Usually if someone was this blunt and straightforward with me, I would have shrunk back into my shell by now. But, for some reason, I was being drawn to this girl. And I guess there could be no real harm in trying to be her friend. Lord knows I'm in short supply of those right now.

"Donald," I said, finally dropping her hand.

"Sorry?"

"I think Donald Duck would win in the fight."

And that was the beginning of our friendship and the most wonderful week of my life.

The next day I walked into the library a little nervous. But I found Jade at the same table, stretched casually back in a chair. She gave me a big smile as I took the seat across from her.
