It was unbearably cold and Bella wanted nothing more than to curl up into a tight ball and shut out the world just for one moment. The stone floor was uncomfortable and a rigid object was slightly digging into her head, but the pain was agonising. It was still black, but she had become aware of her surroundings. A slight breeze brushed against her cheek and a strong smell of rust filled her nose.

Groaning and sighing, she slowly opened her eyes revealing the white ceiling of the guest room and the grand glass chandelier that brightly lit the room.

Putting a hand behind her, she managed to lift herself up so she was sitting up right. Immediately she noticed the pool of blood she was lying in, indicating what the rust smell was, and at once made her feel queasy. She had always been sensitive to blood, whether it was her own or anybody else's. She realised that her injuries must be worse than she thought. The object behind her head turned out to be a book that she passed out on. That's going to leave a bruise, she thought to herself. Speaking of bruises, she lifted up the hem of her dress revealing various new purple and black spots appearing on her skin.

It wasn't the first time that she had to be of service to a visitor. This time hadn't been half as bad as last time, when she had to serve a couple visiting from Brazil. It left her unconscious for two days and she wasn't able to stand for another two. She'd earned many beatings for not being able to complete her chores those days, especially by Aro.

For some reason, Aro had grown to highly dislike Bella, for whatever reason, and always took out his anger on her if she was around. Marcus wasn't as bad as he never really took notice of her. Caius on the other hand, was a whole other story.

The blonde vampire had grown a certain fondness for Bella, and always felt sorry for her when she was being kicked and hit by Aro. Sometimes, he was even kind enough to slip her an extra slice of bread or sometimes cheese, which she presumed was the only thing that had kept her alive for so long.

I could use that extra food right now, thought Bella as she managed to get to her feet. Her eyes struggled to focus at first, causing her to stumble forwards falling into a wooden shelf. Her fall had created a loud commotion, and her heart thrummed against her ribs as she heard footsteps coming down the hall to inspect the damage.

A tall, lean guard emerged at the door shaking his head from side to side as his eyes landed on Bella.

"Well well, what have we here?" he raised an eyebrow towards Bella before a malicious grin spread across his lips. "Where are you supposed to be young lady?"

Bella could hardly find her voice as she squeaked, "I-I don't know. I-I was looking a-after a guest."

"Well your guest has long gone, now hasn't he?" the smile on his face turned into an angry from as he advanced towards her crimpled body splayed out across the floor. "And I think you need to be taught a lesson on how to address the royal guard."

Before she could speak, the vampire had appeared next to her and sunk his teeth into her wrist. The scream that followed echoed down the hall.

"Aaarrrgggghhhhh!" she cried as tears cascaded down her cheeks, and the familiar pulling sensation tore at her wrist.

But the vampire wasn't finished with her yet. He continued drinking, and Bella worried he wasn't going to stop, that he would disobey the royal commands of the Volturi and kill her. Her vision was starting to become blurry and she couldn't make out the shiny glass chandelier anymore, when a low, familiar voice sounded from the door.
