Chapter 15: background

Chapter 15

Splish splash split plop. It was useless trying to get bliss to stay still in the tub, and after fighting with her I soon fell into the tub myself and the happy one year old started playing with my hair. The door opened and chaos walked in and looked at the mess of water sitting on the floor and his wet wife sitting in the tub with her arms crossed and his daughter playing in the water and trying to get out.

“Bath time?” he asked.

“Oh yeah.”

“Bawh bad!” bliss shouted and stomped her foot and slipped and fell on her back in the tub. She sat up and began crying.

I got up and grabbed her and held the crying toddler.

After she stopped crying we finished her bath and when it was time for bed I went to put her in her crib but she held on and would not get in bed.

“Daddy!” she screamed and started crying. He rushed in and took the crying child.

“What happened?” he asked.

“She wont sleep.” I said and walked over to the rocking chair in the corner and sat down.

After he calmed her down he put her to bed and walked over to me and lifted me up, sat in the chair, and sat me in his lap.

“She is so angry these past few days and I don’t know why.” I said and tears ran down my face.

“I’m a bad mother.”

“No you’re not your wonderful and I believe that she is just cranky, she’s teething and she just is having bad days. Your not a bad mother.” He said and kissed my forehead. I sighed and he wiped the tears from my cheek.

I leaned down and rested my head in the crook of his neck and inhaled deeply. He smelled homey, like a warm fabric softener smell with some aftershave. I liked it.

I started thinking what if having this new baby I wouldn’t be a good mother? What if bliss was trying to tell me something was wrong and I need to start doing better? What if I wasn’t good enough? All these possibilities brought tears to my eyes and he held me tighter trying to tell me it’ll be ok and that everything will be fine. Who was he trying to convince? Me or him?

It was a month after Abby and Dan go together now and I was supposed to go see them tomorrow.

The next morning we basically needed a new door because bloom, ally, and jazz all decided to come visit. We sat In the living room and jazz was playing with bliss while ally and bloom were all trying to feel up my stomach.

“Have you decided on a name yet?” ally asked scotching back to give us room. “Yep his name is going to be Nelson Alexander.” I said with a smile thinking of the name I had picked out.

“Aw I love it!” ally squealed. I looked down at bloom.

“How did you get your name is was always curious what kind of name was bloom?” I asked. She smiled.

“My mom and dad met back in spring in the blooming flowers and when they first had me they thought of my name back when they were in the field. Before my father died.” She said.

“Oh I’m so sorry.” I said she shook her head. “It’s fine. It wasn’t your fault. He died of cancer.” I hugged her and I let her cry a bit. 

It was a while later when jazz came over. “Hey bloom who’s older you or chaos?”

“Were did that come from?” ally asked.

“I was asking if bliss was happy she was going to be a big sister and I wondered who was older you or him?”

“Well actually I am. By 2 years.” She said proudly.

“I also wonder what kind of a name is chaos?” ally asked.

“Well when my mom had my brother it was during the chaos with my dad in the hospital and when she was talking to my dad she yelled out ‘This is chaos!’ when the nurse came in to name him so the nurse thought his name was chaos, so they thought not to change it!” she said laughing at the story.

We all laughed when chaos walked out into the room. “What’s so funny?” he asked. We all answered with ‘nothing’ and bliss said ‘your name’ and we all burst out with laughter.

So later on the girls were begging me to come to some club later with them but I told them that going right now in my current state probably wasn’t the best idea, so they made me promise that once I give birth and things settle down that I’d go.  And chaos was not happy that he was going to be stuck with two kids but we told him to suck it up and move on.

I was about ready to pass out when I got the call from Abby.

“REMY I’M PREGNANT!!”

Then something in my stomach turned for the worst.
