Taylor was on stage, in a tight little black dress singing along to some karaoke song. I threw back another shot and wandered over. I joined in singing along to “Your So Vain” screaming along the words with her and jumping around, our faces full of smiles and laughter at each other. There was laughter from the crowd that filled the room of the after party along with some claps as she hugged me quickly and danced off stage to Harry.

It was coincidence that I was even here. My mates in One Direction had just finished their first headlining show at Madison Square Garden. I could’ve been in the UK, I could’ve been taking some time off before the holidays and tour picking up after but I was here, in New York City. Sure, I was happy for them having just played the world’s most famous arena, but part of me had my eyes rolling the whole night.

Taylor had just started this relationship with Harry. He was one of my best mates, but having becoming close to Taylor over the past year, part of me just didn’t like it. To me, it seemed like a joke - until I had seen them here tonight. Either they were putting on a good show, or this was real and that there was some interest in each other.

Being a little drunk, I went back to the bar and ordered a beer. I took it sitting down next to Zayne, talking with him and watching Taylor and Harry dancing out of the corner of my eye. I really didn’t like it. The music stopped and it was time for more karaoke. Someone else got up and sand. Taylor and Harry came and sat down next to me and someone brought her a fruity drink.

"Having to see my ex’s family earlier just had me looking forward to this the whole time." She said after a sip. She reached for Harry’s hand and smiled at me.

"Thought you got on with them okay?" I asked. Harry shot me a look.

"Yeah, but still, it’s a bit awkward you know? Always is a bit awkward." She took another sip. It didn’t take much to get Taylor tipsy, and I could tell that she’s already had one or two drinks based on the flush on her cheeks, the tone of her voice, and the look in her eyes.

Not the only thing that’s awkward. I thought, keeping it in my head. I finished my beer and we continued chatting away for some time. My eyes very rarely leaving Taylor’s. Tonight, they were perfect. They always were perfect, and I began to realize how nice it’d be to get to look into those eyes all the time. Perhaps it was jealousy over her dating my best mate, but I decided it was time to do something about that and stood up. “Taylor, would you dance with me? That’s if you don’t mind Harry?”

"You don’t dance, Ed, you never dance." She said with a laugh.

"Yeah, I don’t mind, go ahead. I’ll wait here." Harry said. I took Taylor’s hand and lead her to the dance floor. I put my hands on her waist and she slipped hers around my neck. We stood there swaying making small circles.

"You’re drunk, Ed." She said very matter-of-factly.

I looked down into her eyes. “Yes, I’m drunk but you are too, Swiftie.”

She laughed, throwing her head back. “Yes, Ed, I’m drunk.”

I laughed with her. “Can I tell you something Taylor? Promise you won’t get upset.”

"Sure, anything. I trust you." She said looking at me.

"I don’t like you with Harry." I exhaled loudly after I whispered that into her ear.

She pulled away, standing a foot away from me, looking at me with a dark, hurt look in her eyes.  ”I thought that you of all people would be supportive.”

She turned, her hair flipping over her shoulder as she walked quickly back to the table. I let her go, didn’t try to stop her, the damage was already done. She picked up her clutch and whispered in Harry’s ear. He gave me a look, angry too I suppose and they were walking towards the door quickly. I sat down in the nearest chair and put my head in my hands. Well, I sure did fuck that up again.

I took out my phone, and quickly texted her. “Sorry, Taylor. I know I’m an ass. Please let me explain. Call me when you can.” I hit send and stuck it back in my pocket. Realizing that I now ruined both of our nights, I got up and headed back to my hotel room. I wondered silently how much more I’d ruin my relationship with Taylor over the next year, being on tour and all. Nope, better not to say anything from now on.
