The control room of the Asylum resembled a large laboratory mixed with a military headquarters. It was a dimly lit expanse lined with computers and large desks, each with their own techie to control the computer. Each computer controlled surveillance that stretched across the entirety of Western America, all through hacked security cameras.
Nara walked the length of the computers, making each techie flinch at her proximity. She closely watched each screen for aberrations in the daily lives of those they were watching.
"Target sighted, miss," said a young techie near the end.
Nara approached him, distinguishing him from the rest through his mop of red hair.
She leaned onto the desk behind him, peering at his screen, making sure the distance between her and him was small enough to make him tense.
On the screen, she saw a trio of people emerge from the darkness onto the street. One of them was the one that they had been tracking. The blond with the stitched lips and tattered dress. Nara smiled as she remembered applying those stitches herself.
Her attention was drawn, however, by the other two people with her, who were striking indeed. With a pair of wings each, Nara was instantly set on getting her claws on them. She knew several buyers that would pay top dollar for such specimens. Especially the girl, whose auburn hair framed a beautiful, though dirty, face.
"I want a full report and diagnostics on both of those creatures," she said, at which point the techie pressed a few buttons and zoomed the camera into the them, allowing for a better view of them as they walked down the darkened street. A few beeps emitted from the machine before a couple of pieces of paper printed from it's front.
The techie pulled the papers and studied them for a moment, "There isn't much of a record on them. Whoever hid them must have hidden them well. Birth certificates tell us that they're twin siblings named Blane and Nyiah Carrigan, born to Richard and Mary Carrigan on August 9th, 1996. Full scans show obvious avian characteristics as well as something else rather interesting.
Nara cocked an eyebrow.
The techie nervously cleared his throat, running his fingers through his hair, "The scans suggests elemental power. Specifically, fire and ice."
That got the vampire's attention. She looked back at the screen and saw the girl, Nyiah, light a tiny flame on her fingertip as the two turned into an alleyway, probably looking for a place to sleep.
"Location?" Nara demanded.
"Er...Little Rock, Kansas."
She still watched the screen, hungrily eyeing her quarry.
The fish girl, Anastasia, looked up at the camera, staring directly at it. She lifted her hand, giving a three-fingered signal to them. Nara smiled.
"Get them," she commanded.
Yes, I know this is a painfully short chapter, but I can't give too much away. Never fear, though. The next chapter will be longer.
