Heeey! Quick note from the author (me): since 13 is my favorite number I've decide to leave you readers with a surprise in this chapter. Hope you enjoy! ;)
Robert was dragging me around everywhere, showing me buildings and introducing me to strange people.
One man, the Baker, had spikey red hair and orange piercing eyes. He had a great personality- kind and polite but with a great sense of humor too. Tattoos and piercings covered his face and arms and to be honest, I thought he would be a punkass jerk, but he was the exact opposite. Afterwards, I still couldn't believe he was a baker. That's when Robert explained-
"Well he's not just a Baker. That's his cover job for the Human Plane. In our world, He's called an Ancient Tamer."
I scratched my head with a tired yawn, "And what's that again?"
He shook his head with a grin, "There are many forms of Tamers, but an Ancient Tamer is a man, and only a man, who bonds with Ancient mythical creatures and has the willpower to bend them to his command, in an essence, tame them."
I nodded, suddenly intrigued with the subject of mythical creatures, "Know of any examples?"
"Well...Dragons, Unicorns, Griffins, Hypogriffs, Pegasis, Satyrs, Centaurs, Mermaids, Harpys, etc etc."
He shrugged his shoulders as if to say 'hey, no big deal, same old same old'. But what this man called "same old", I called amazing!
"Th-That's incredible!" my face brightened happily, my smile almost splitting my cheeks.
Robert raised a suspicious eyebrow and chuckled quietly, "So someone really likes the mythical era, right?"
I suddenly became self conscious and angry all over again, "It's none of your business."
"That's funny, considering I've been telling you everything for the past hour."
"I cant believe it's all the truth though, so don't think you're so smart and you've outwitted me."
He suddenly stopped in his tracks and turned around, staring into my eyes, his face blank of all expression, "I think you're stubborn." Then turned back around and continued walking.
What was that all about?! Really? He had to be so serious just to give me his damn opinion I didn't ask for?!
I found myself growling, "Well I think you're a stupid, thick-headed, lying bastard!"
This made him stop, but he didn't turn around. This time he glanced back at me with a painful smirk and replied in a quite tone, "Well you are right about one thing..."
This shocked me, I expected him to retort back, call me another name, make me furious, but instead, he told me...I was right? I stayed quiet for the rest of the awkward walk back to the Baker's, he was kind enough to let us stay in his shed.
-----
That was two hours ago, and Robert hasn't spoken to me since. A long red curtain separated straight down the center of the small shed, one side Robert's, the other mine.
And for beds? Piles of loose hay. "Great. Such a wonderful world right? Can't even afford beds..."
I grumbled quietly to myself. Did my words really hurt him that badly? My guilty conscious ate away at my pride; I didn't mean to hurt him...but damn if he doesn't deserve it! Ugh! Why couldn't I just hate him without feeling like crap?!
I decided to just ignore him and lie down, persuading my mind to ignore the biting guilt and give in to some well deserved sleep.
