Chapter 2 | Hogging The Spotlight

After Class

KYOKO'S POV

"Hey Yui!" I called out trying to catch up to her because that girl just walks too damn fast.

"What is it now Kyoko?" Yui asks while raising an eyebrow. We were on our way to the club room.

"What does Sensei mean by 'modern Romeo and Juliet'?" I asked. I was now walking beside her.

"Oh that." She says with no interest at all. "I have no idea."

I grunted. "Aw poop," I mumbled. "I was totally hoping you'd know so I could catch a general drift."

"Hah, you could go ask Chitose and Ayano if you want. I think they'd know more better than I would." She replies, focused on something else other than me.

I thought long and hard about my schedule for next week since we'd start practicing. Normally I wouldn't care about stuff like this, but with Ayano being my Juliet? Hell no. I wanted to make sure I was totally free for practices.

Did I really just think that?

That's when realization struck me. "Gosh poop it!"

Yui looked at me like I was crazy. Her attention was now fully on me. "What?"

I groaned. "I just remembered; the doujinshi deadline is on December 25th." I furrowed my eyebrows in depression. "And I totally forgot."

"How stupid." Yui says. "You're in luck!" She smiles. "I'm feeling quite good today and I've decided to help you out."

"Sweet!" I did a fist pump in the air. "Wait, do I need to pay you back or anything?"

"Pfft. Just do good on kissing Ayano that's all." Oh gosh, on how I want to strangle you right now.

"Hmm, I'm sure I'll do better than you would." I told her. "And why are you happy? Someone confess to you or something?"

She looked at me seriously and sighs. "If only you knew..." Yui mumbled. I quickly jumped to conclusions.

I yelled out in the air to no one and nothing in particular, "YUI HAS A CRUSH!!! AND I'M DAMN SURE IT AINT YOU!!!"

Yui told me to shut up afterwards because Chinatsu might hear us. Here's the thing, Chinatsu actually confessed to Yui last summer. And Yui turned her down... in a funny way. Well, funny to me.

I'm generous, so here's a flashback.

"I-I'm glad you came today Senpai." Chinatsu said nervously. Her eyes were darting anywhere from Yui's.

"Yeah, what you do you want me for? I really need to go home." Yui said. That day was not her day.

"A-Ah... I needed to tell you something. .." She starts, "I think I like you..."

'You're soo straight to the point Chinatsu-chan.' I thought.

"Yeah. I like you too Chinatsu-chan. But I really need to-"

"N-No, I think I mean I love you..."

"Mhm. That's great Chinatsu-chan." Yui was not listening at that point. She really needed to get home for a very reasonable reason.

"Really? Does that mean were dating?" Chinatsu asked excitedly.

"Huh?" Yui furrowed her eyebrows in anger. "Oh no. Ugh, seriously, I need to get home right now." Yui started walking to her apartment feeling guilty that it would end like that.

Chinatsu stood there. I thought she would actually cry right on the spot. But Akari rushed over to her and told her it was Yui's time of the month. Chinatsu's face lightened up and told her."Then, that doesn't count! I'll try again when it's not her week!" She then made a fist pump in the air.

I chuckled. "She's glad that it was on your period. Or else it would actually hurt her."

"Oh shut up." Yui mumbles, "At least she understands, unlike you. Who knows what could've happened if it wasn't my period. Oh, and I looked like a penguin from Antarctica that day."

We reached the club room to find Akari and Chinatsu waiting there already.

"Hey guys!" I started, "Do you have any acting?" Yui hits my head afterwards telling me to at least greet them first.

Chinatsu yawned. "I heard your class was chosen to do the play on the Winter Dance."

"The Winter Dance?" Akari asked. "What's that?"

"It's new. It's practically a dance where we can act like we're having a friendly prom or something. I heard it from Himawari-chan, it was proposed by the Student Council. It was Ayano's idea, I heard." Chinatsu replies. Winter Dance eh? That's totally new. I haven't been into dances. I only watch them.

"So it's like a ball?" Yui asks. Chinatsu nods in reply. "Aaand..." Chinatsu adds. "Romeo and Juliet will take the dance floor, I heard."

SERIOUSLY?!?!

Did I really just think of that?

"Now that," Yui says, "is interesting." She smirks at me and gives a thumbs up. "You see, our Tomato has turned into Prince Charming!"

Chinatsu and Akari looks at us with confused looks. "What?" Akari asks.

"Kyoko is-"

I quickly cut Yui off. "I AM ROMEO AND I'M GUNNA HOG THE SPOTLIGHT BOI!!!" I yelled.

A few minutes after...

"TOSHINO KYOKO!!!" A familiar voice boomed, opening the club room door followed by a white-haired cheery girl.

"SUGIURA AYANO!!!" I replied with the same tone as Ayano.

"Excuse us~~" Chitose says.

Yui looked at me sternly before asking Ayano, "What'd she do this time?" She sighs.

"How'd you even know it was me?" I ask innocently, "You didn't see me."

"She ate all my precious pudding!" Ayano fumes. You could practically see her annoyance towards me.

"Ehehe, I was hungry during lunch so I ate your pudding..." I say, rubbing my tummy and licking my lips. "It was delicious."

"You know very well that the Student Council fridge is NOT for you to raid!"

"Just because it's not for me to raid, doesn't mean I can't raid it." I tell her with a big grin on my face.

"That doesn't make any sense!"

"Of course it doesn't!"

"Ugh..." Ayano looked furious for a while but a flustered face slowly replaces it.

"Toshino Kyoko... why'd you accept the role of Romeo? It's not like I care or anything! Its just... since I'm Juliet...I'd like to know..." Ayano stutters. Her face was filled with curiosity which made her look very cute. Not as cute as me though.

"My gawsh Ayano... you look so damn cute!" I giggled. "Since Romeo is one of the main characters of the play, I wanted to be him. Because... The spotlight should always be on me!!!" I pause, "Like I said earlier: IMMAH GUNNA HOG THE SPOTLIGHT BOI!!!" I cheer with uttermost happiness.

"So," I ask Ayano, leaning closer to her flustered face, "Why'd you accept the role of Juliet?"
