The dim moonlight shone inside the hall through the large broken windows, taking away the devouring darkness. The ceiling and walls were filled with the ancient paintings of mythological creatures. The large room was part of a estate which had been abandoned long time ago. In the middle stood a large devious figure. His features were barely visible under dim light but his glowing ruby red orbs could be seen from miles away.
Around him stood similar muscular men, glancing at him.
"We are fighting a lost battle. We should just give up and run for our lives." One of the them shouted defiantly among the crowd.
"They are stronger...much stronger than us." Other voice came trembling.
"They have already killed so many of us."Soon the whole room was filled with the murmuring of husky men. The man pulled up his lips to let out an angry snarl, his growl so loud that every other voice in the room became dead.
"You cowards... one more word from any of you and I'll rip his throat out." He said glaring around the room, anger seeping out of his tone. "We have to do to it protect ourselves. Do you want us to be extinct?" He continued. It came out more as a threat than a question.
"We will continue what we are doing. Increasing our numbers is the only advantage that we can get over them." No voice rose against him. "And if any of you has a problem with my saying he can speak right now." He looked around with detest as if daring anyone to utter a single word.
He walked away and everyone stood aside to make way for him. They were all infuriated with their leader but none dared to rebel against him. He walked past them sensing their anger rolling off in waves but didn't give it a single thought.
He knew they were fighting a lost battle but he refused to bow down, it went against his nature. He also knew even if they backed down, they all will be ripped apart. Their enemy was vicious and merciless, it had no intention to negotiate and was bent down on one thing that was to destroy their race. He was afraid, very afraid of them but never let a single muscle on his face reveal that.
It was coming. Their enemy was coming for them.
