natsu and lucy and the rest of the gang were in the park, sitting on the ground having a good time. everyone was with their pairings as per usual. levy with gajeel. erza with jellal. gray with juvia. and of course, natsu and lucy. the ones who didn't have a pairing was mira, lisanna and cana. about a little over two years ago, lucy was in a relationship with a man named dan.

but at the same time lucy didn't know that dan was doubling with lisanna, and with lisanna, the other way around. both didn't know. they were oblivious. as soon as lucy found out she cried her heart out. she didn't want to see anyone especially the insolent prick. she was the first one to find out. she locked herself in her room for an entire month, not coming out.

natsu tried to come in multiple times, some even through the window but to no avail would she let him in. lucy finally opened her bedroom door and natsu was sitting right in front of it. that night lucy heartfilia put her brokenhearted pieces into natsu dragneel's hands.

with lisanna, she took it well. she found out and stood shocked. she heard it two weeks after lucy did. no wonder she hasn't been at school. she went into her room like every other teenage girl would do and cried. the next day she acted as if nothing ever happened. the white haired girl would stay quiet for the majority of the time only talking when necessary. lucy didn't speak at all.

after having her breakdown with natsu she stayed silent. she wouldn't even talk if asked to. she would stay by natsu's side and occasionally rest her head on his shoulder. it looked like they were a couple at that point. but no one mentioned it. only when both, lisanna and lucy, were out the room. natsu didn't mind it in the slightest.

he loved when lucy was around him acting like some sort of protective barrier to her. he finally got the girl he loved for so long and he had no intention on letting her go for a long while. lucy was staring at the soiled ground, fiddling with some blade of grass that she plucked from the earth. occasionally, natsu would look beside him to check on his beloved blondie. he looked at her with sincere. it's been so long since lucy has smiled.

lucy felt his hand on the right side of her as he rubbed his thumb in small circles across the small of her back. she looked up at him and sent him a message through her eyes.

'thank you.'

he knew that she was feeling underwhelmed by everyone around her. back then she would talk to anyone regardless of her state. now? she only talks to one person and one person only. dragneel.

she started getting teary eyed as her mind drifted off into a forbidden place that she tried her hardest to forget. natsu knew exactly was she thinking. " come here. " was all he said. lucy didn't even hesitate. she crawled over and straddled his waist as she faced him. involuntarily she wrapped her hand around his chest and stuffed her face into his chest as she let just a few tears slip.

" you know i hate seeing you like this? hm? " he said, rubbing her back soothingly, " you've got to get over this, baby. let this go. it's not worth it. " he mumbled into her hair. she held even tighter. " how? " was all she said. she took no effort to look up at him. " every time i even look at something it reminds me of him. it disgusts me in my whole entire being. " she spat the last part.

" think of it this way. you let go of one of the many human beings that will come into your life who are gonna be toxic for you. and you won't even know it. that is one less toxic asshole to come in and exit your life, " he started,

" it's not your fault. it will never ever be your fault when it comes to these people. they can be deceiving. they can be manipulative. and they can be the most pitiful people. you just got caught up in it. that happens. it's life,

" but do you know what you have to do? " he looked down at her. he lifted her head up, his hand gently touching her chin to make her look at him. " you, babygirl, need to keep your chin up high. you have the most amazing personality and kindness out there and those people who've fucked you over can go roll over into a ditch,

she smiled. a genuine one.

" they don't deserve you. they don't deserve your kindness. especially with a heart like yours. you need people who are there for you and tell you right from wrong whether you just need advice or downright just can't do it,

" you need to look those people straight in the eye and say, 'i don't need you in my life because i have people who want to be in mine.' and you can either say fuck off if you want to or not, your choice,

" and you know who the first person on the list to support you in everything you do and cheer you on like a soccer mom? " he asked. " who? " she questions. " darling, he's right in front of you. " her eyes darted up to his onyx orbs.

" it's time you realize that this person right here will be there for you through hell and back. i love you, lucy ashley heartfelia. and i need you to know that. " her eyes widened realization.

without even thinking she wrapped her arms around his neck tightly as tears rolled down her cheeks. those tears weren't tears of sadness. they were tears of happiness.

happy that she can finally let go.
