A quick check over by Saffron - who Blaine had learned was the resident doctor - resulted in an arm in a sling for Richie and a few wrapped bandages on various parts of Kayla's body. Given the situation, the two kids got extremely lucky. Things could have been a LOT worse.

Kissing both their heads and tucking them in, Blaine told them, "Sweet dreams, guys." He made sure to turn the lights out before he left the room with Sammy and shut the door. After a heavy sigh, Blaine met the eyes of his panting pooch. Patting his head, he reassured him, "They'll be fine, boy." As he made his way down the hall, two recognizable voices echoed toward him.

"Gael, I don't see what the problem is."

"The Director said no. He doesn't need to know." Blaine figured out instantly the "He" in reference was him and crept slowly toward them. He didn't know the range of Kyra's telepathy, but figured she'd have to concentrate to hear him at his current distance.

"Don't you think he needs to know? After all, they are the reason he exists."

Blaine swore his heart leapt into his throat. The reason he existed? Was Kyra referring to his parents? His birth parents? Not that he cared. Or did he?

Gael's response snapped him out of his conflicting, anxiety-ridden thoughts: "Director's orders. And what the Director says, goes. When orders change and I am told otherwise, then we'll mention them. Besides, he's been through enough right now. This is definitely not the time to drop that bombshell."

Blaine scowled. "More secrets? Great." His eyes landed back on Sammy, who had his head cocked to the side and stared up at him with worried eyes. "C'mon, Sammers." The dog's tail wagged when Blaine said his name. "Let's go hole up in my new room and watch some television. I wonder if this group's cable package includes TruTV?" He turned around and headed down a side hallway to his room. Once inside, he shut the door with a sigh.

Sammy hopped up onto the bed and sat there with his tail wagging and his muzzle in a panting smile. Blaine reflected that smile, because he couldn't help but smile when his furry sidekick did. Once Blaine sat next to him, the dog slobbered him with kisses. Blaine laughed uncontrollably. At least his relationship with his dog had weathered this crazy, magical storm.

Unfortunately, he knew more storms waited on the horizon, just waiting for the perfect moment to strike him down.

But, next time, he'd be ready.
