Chapter 39- Kyra?

I was busy typing away as I was registering online to study at a University in Baltimore. It was the school I had planned on going to before tragedy stroke my life, taking away the only family I had left. The deadline was in a few days and I wanted to ensure that everything was in order. I had yet to tell Andrea and Daniel that I had applied as I knew they would be heartbroken that I was leaving.

After finally clicking on the submit button, I released a sigh that I did not know that I was holding in.

I went downstairs to get a snack when I heard the house phone ringing. Since I was in the living room, I decided to answer as Andrea was in the kitchen preparing lunch while Daniel was in the garage working on his car.

"You've reached the Edwards' residence. How may I help you?" I said bubbly into the phone.

"Hello, is my mom there? Can I speak to Andrea please?" the person said quickly and my eyes opened wide.

"Kyra?" I asked in utter disbelief. I could not believe my ears. After all this time, Kyra was calling home.

"Ye-yes. I-I need to speak to my mom."she said, her tone sounding a bit scared and hurried.

I shouted Andrea with a thrill in my voice and a wave of emotions going through my head.

I could not believe that it was Kyra on the line. After all this time, she was finally calling her mother. I had never met her before but I was excited that she was finally contacting her family. Her mother would be thrilled to finally have her daughter back after all this time.

"Andrea, you need to come to the phone now!" I shouted.

"What's the matter?" she shouted, still in the kitchen preparing lunch.

"It's Kyra."I responded and I heard a large crash in the kitchen and heavy footsteps as Andrea screamed in joy as she ran into the living room and took the phone from my hand with excitement.

"Kyra. Is it really you?" Andrea cried with joy as she spoke in the receiver.

In the meantime, I ran to the garage to call Daniel to tell him the good news. We both ran to the living room and watched Andrea intently as she spook to her daughter. Her eyes were welled with tears and a huge smile was plastered on her face.

"Hold on one minute, I have a surprise for you." Andrea said and handed the phone to Daniel.

"Hello." Daniel said into the receiver and tears of joy dripped down his face.

After speaking to Kyra for a while, he said goodbye and handed the phone back to Andrea and they spoke for a little while longer.

"See you soon my princess. I love you." she said, hanging up.

" Kyra's coming home! She'll be here by tonight." she said with happy tears.

"I can't believe it! After almost two years, we finally get to see my daughter alive." Daniel said in amazement.

How did she manage to get in contact with her family after so long? Was she safe? It had been almost three years since Kyra was kidnapped and she was twenty years old now. Had she escaped from Raymond's evil grasp or had he allowed her freedom willingly? I was baffled about the whole situation as much as I was excited that Kyra was finally going to see her parents again. At least she had a family who loved and cared for her. I can't wait for her to come back so she can explain everything to us. Her friends would be so ecstatic about her return home after so long.

" Kyra will be so happy when she finds out we worked out our differences and got married." Andrea cried out with joy.

" I wonder why after so long she would want to come back. Her amnesia must have worn off. I hope she is safe." Daniel said worriedly.

"Should we alert the authorities?" Andrea asked with worry in her voice.

"Honey, the cops have been crooked and dubious from day one. I'm hesitant to alert them in case it might put Kyra in danger. What if they alert her kidnapper and he finds her before she gets home safely to us. Let's just wait for her to come home and then we'll do the necessary arrangements, as she might be able to help us arrest that sick bastard once and for all." Daniel said and I agreed with him one hundred per cent.

"Let me at least tell Erica the good news. We could throw Kyra a welcome home party." Andrea said.

"Andrea, I know you mean well but we do not know what state our little girl is coming back home in. Let's not rush things. Let's wait until she is home safe and sound before we throw any parties. I don't even think we should tell Erica the good news as yet." Daniel responded and I agreed.

Her friends would be ecstatic to have Kyra back in their lives. They were all traumatised when she was kidnapped together with Lisa. Lisa almost lost her life and although she cannot remember anyone from her past, she has made new and beautiful memories. As much as I wanted to message Lisa to give her the good news, I was sceptical as well, because Raymond was a dangerous monster who was not only psychotic but somehow he was always one step ahead.

Even Kyra's call to her parents might have been a wrong move on her part. After all, they had their daughter back in their arms for a quick while not long after she had turned eighteen before she was taken under their noses as Raymond had beaten me up to match her bruises since we looked so alike. Just thinking about that still scarred me as I would occasionally wake up in the night screaming. I just hope all goes well and Kyra gets home safely.

"Fine. I'm just so excited that Kyra is finally coming home!" Andrea exclaimed and I was just as happy as they were as their daughter was finally going to be reunited with them.

Yes, it's been over two years since I have been editing this book and although there are still a few typos and grammatical errors, it's better than before as I have lengthened the chapters and giving more detail to what really happened and why Kyra was kidnapped. In other words, the plot of the story is not as confusing as it was before.
