i used to watch you carve your soul into fruit trees, and read vintage books in wildflower meadows beneath the arizona sun. you have sun for eyes, and i melt like room temperature mercury every time i see you. but you'd never even know because all i ever seem to do is run as if my leopard print coat was my skin. opposites attract they say. the smudged rouge on your lover's lips, could easily be mistaken for something other than ripping each rose from the oasis surfacing your limbs. it hurts me every time seeing you fall to your knees while she yanks each feather from your wings and replaces it with a blade, making sure to lick her fingers afterwards. you never seemed to mind, one could even say you loved her even more because when she's done she whispers 'you deserved it' against the crevices of your ears. no tears are ever spilled but blood sheds, when you push away the voice that tells you to leave. you push away my voice. i watch her rake her teeth through your flesh and i watch your eyes remain dry and i watch you kiss her anyway with lips more than often taken for granted.
