"It's okay, I'm here now. You'll never have to worry again."

My body tensed when he said this in his usual cold, flat tone, but this time it seemed different. His words seemed to say much more than he was actually saying. They gave me a cold feeling, almost like my brain was telling me to run out of pure terror. I ignored these feelings and thoughts and just enjoyed the shared warmth. I felt my eyelashes flutter as I started to fall again, this time into a deep calm sleep.

I woke up on the cold alley ground where we live. I was under a small damp piece of cardboard. I shivered and sat up, rubbing the sleep from my eyes. William was gone, again. Sometimes if I woke up early while I was sleeping he would be gone, for hours on end. He doesn't say anything about it so I assume it's nothing but I'm still curious. I looked toward the setting sun. Great, I slept through the whole entire day. I stretched and got up, staggering a little bit. I felt a cold hand on the back of my neck and screamed. It was quickly muffled by said hand and I was turned around.

     "Calm down....Phillip."

He smiled coolly at me and I felt a cold shiver run along my spine.

     "Why Phillip?"

He shrugged and put his hands in his pocket. I chuckled dryly. Maybe a name wasn't so bad after all. Then I saw a little scrap of fur peek out from behind him and open its mouth. I squealed and dropped to my knees to open my arms. I ignored the pain that spread over my knees and legs and smiled like a little kid. The kitten came to me slowly. I stuck out my hand and it rubbed its cheek against my palm. It was a cute little blue eyed siamese kitten. It had a really dark chocolate brown on its muzzle, tail and ear tips, and all four legs going upward almost reaching its chest and hindquarters like long socks that don't fit quite right.

"I thought you would like a little companion."

William picked at his nails and looked uninterested. I smiled and jumped up to hug him showing my thanks and appreciation. He staggered back a couple centimeters and patted my head before I released him and kneeled back down to play with the kitten.

"It's name is going to be Antonio!"

The kitten hopped up onto my knees and curled up. It put a paw over its nose and its tail curled around it's tiny body while it purred contently. I already loved it. I looked up at William to see him playing with his old switch blade between his fingers. I smiled at him and he turned away, but not before I saw a sadistic smile cross his lips.
