Max Johnson sat on his fire escape, peering out to the city below. The horns of cars honked, people briskly walked on the sidewalks below. Above him, he heard the strumming of what sounded like a ukulele.
He looked up, then heard her voice. It was soft and angelic, cutting through the harsh city sounds.
Wise men say, only fools rush in
But I can't help falling in love with you
Shall I stay?
Would it be a sin?
For I can't help falling in love with youLike a river flows
Surely to the sea
Darling do it goes
Somethings are meant to be
Take my hand, take my whole life too
For I can't help falling in love with youThen, her singing was interrupted by the voice of another girl, "EJ, what are you doing out here? Honestly, why are you still playing that old thing? You're one of the most promising medical prodigies in New York City! It seems odd you're still playing that old thing, you don't need it!"
"Annie, I can't help it! I love singing and playing, it's part of my nature. Like my grandmother said, 'Music is in your blood, EJ. Never let it go.'" The girl, EJ, said.
"I know, I know. You always quote your grandmother, don't you?" The other girl, Annie, said.
"Can't help it, she was my role model and still is. Even though she may not be with us anymore, she's still an inspiration." EJ said.
"Anyway, we're gonna head out to go shopping soon. You're coming with us, no buts. You're going to come." Annie told her.
"Alright, alright. Just don't drag me out like last time." EJ chuckled.
Then the voices faded away, Max still sat on the fire escape. Completely in awe that the girl with he most beautiful voice, lived right above him.
