THE PAST: ALL THE WAY BACK IN SECOND GRADE-

I remember it like it was yesterday...

My dad's job decided to relocate here in Loganville, Georgia, right in the middle of my second grade school year. Yes, I did complain about it that day my dad decided to drop the big news on us, but hey, I was only 8 years old, there wasn't much I could say to change his mind.

So anyways, my first day of second grade in my new school, Bay Creek Elementary. I jumped out of bed and did a little jig (commonly done when I get excited), I then went through my mourning routine and then I came to the most important part, what to wear. I knew I wanted to impress my new classmates so I didn't wanna show up looking like a dork.

"What to wear, what to wear? Should I wear my neon pink peace shirt, or just wear a Mickey Mouse t-shirt... No. No. No. Way to childish, but then again, who am I kidding, its second grade!" I silently said to myself.

"LACEY!!" my mom yelled from down the stairs, "IF YOUR BUTTS NOT DOWN HERE IN THE NEXT 10 MINUTES, YOUR GONNA MISS THE BUSS!! AND THERE IS NO WAY I WANNA DRIVE YOU TO SCHOOL THIS EARLY!!"

I leaned out the door to my room and yelled down the stairs to my mom, "Good morning to you too."

I paused and heard her stomping towards her room, "Someone's grumpy." I silently muttered to myself afraid she might hear me. (I swear that woman has ears like a hawk!)

I walked back to my closet, closed my eyes, and took a deep breath, and randomly pulled a shirt and pants from my closet while also picking up a pair of shoes. I opened back up my eyes and to see what my nervously shaking hands pulled out. Great, my pink "I love candy" shirt, and my new denim jeans with butterflies going up the side that my dad had bought me last week on our little family shopping spree, lastly my pink flip flops.

I threw on the clothes, then looked in the mirror and liked what I saw, "With this outfit, there's a chance I'll be able to make a ton of new friends!" I excitedly said to myself.

I heard my mom counting down from the bottom of the stairs, "5....4....3....3 and a half... don't make me get to 2!"

I took one last look in the mirror, smiled, then sprinted with my backpack down the stairs, "HA! Guess I beat ya to it." I happily yelled to my mom.

At the same time, my dad walked out of his room looking all confused and said, "What's with all the noise, some people are trying to sleep here, ya know."

"You better go before you miss the bus." My mom said ignoring my dad.

"Oh yeah, almost forgot." I said before giving my mom and dad the biggest bear hug in the history of bear hugs. "Bye!"

I ran out the door and put on a huge smile while the bus slowed down to a stop in front of our house.

"This is it." I said while walking up the stairs of the bus. It was jam-packed and everyone was sitting with a friend except for two people. One was a light skinned, red-haired girl with a bright friendly smile. The other was a dark skinned girl that did not look so happy, she had more of a "don't bother me" look.

"Are you gonna sit down or what?" The bus driver said knocking me out of my thoughts.

I decided to sit with the red head, as I sat down in her seat I quickly started ranting, "Hey, I'm Lacey, I'm pretty new here, well actually it's my first day. What classes do you have, maybe hopefully, we can stick together and you can show me around wh-"

She put her hand up as if giving me the "talk to the hand" thing, "No, don't even think about It. We are in second grade, grow up." She then turned sideways and stared out the window, "Loser." I heard her silently add.

Tears slowly started falling down my face, from the corner of my eye, I could see the dark skinned girl looking at me.

"Lacey, don't listen to what Katy has to saw, she just thinks she's better than everyone else when she is obviously not." Dark skinned girl said loudly enough for Katy to hear. "With that attitude Katie, you might never be able to make any real friends.''

"Whatever." Katie said.

"Here," Dark skinned girl said while moving her bag from the seat, "you can sit with me, and by the way, cute shirt."

I smiled, wiped my tears and switched my seats.

"My names Rebecca." Dark, Er- I mean Rebecca said, "Why not,... me and you become best friends, you got my back I got yours." She said while giving me a huge smile.

"Deal." I said laughing.

What I didn't know was this little pack we just made, is gonna help me big time in the future.
