Happiness in Addiction

There's nothing really fun
about a fancy drink.
A glass full of promise
before you slowly sink.

There's nothing really fun
about a cigarette.
A roll full of nic
With pulls of regret.

There's nothing really fun
about that Mary Jane.
A succubus of a plant
that takes away the pain.

There's nothing really fun
about the human body.
Lust with an appetite,
Unwanted after falling.

There's nothing really fun
about a capsule full of meds.
Up and up the dosage,
Until the voices are dead.

Drink it up,
Tie it up,
Trip it out,
Puff.
Everyone feels the need
To live off that stuff.

Put up some restrictions —
only leads to more addictions.

"If your friend jumped off a cliff, would you go and jump too?"
"If it gave him a high, then don't mind if I do!"

Trauma, stress, and lack of attention.
Why are they addicted?
'Cuz there's happiness in fiction.
