a weird evening

"My parents are away and my mom is close with Mrs. Dallas, so I have been staying with them. It's just that Cameron gets in these moods and pushes me past my breaking point, ya know?" I sit on my bed and wait for him to take the spot beside me.

"Maybe you shouldn't spend so much time with him." Logan shrugs.

I sigh and grab his hand. "If it was only that simple."

"I mean, what does he really even know about you?" He squeezes my hand.

"I grew up with Cameron. He knows things I wish he didn't." I give Logan a sad smile.

"Well, I am here now and won't let him affect you Brooklyn." He kisses my cheek.

"Thank you." I smile and look to Hunter that is waiting patiently at the end of my bed. "This is the infamous Hunter, though you have already met him."

"I don't mind seeing him again." Logan leans down and pets him a bit for looking back to me. "You never told me people talk about you at school."

"Did they today?" I raise my eyebrows.

"Yes. They were calling you the same things you told me."

I nod. "It's part of the stuff I am not ready to tell you. Besides that, how really was your first day?"

"Bad that you weren't there." Logan smirks and wraps his arms around me, laying me back on my bed.

I grin and pull him down by his shirt as he starts to kiss me. We're in a pretty heated makeout session when Hunter takes off barking down the stairs.

Logan pulls away and gives me a look. I shrug and readjust myself before looking out my window.

Liz has parked her car in my driveway and is carrying a folder of papers to the front porch.

"Sick work." I sigh and pull Logan back down the stairs with me. Before Liz can even ring the doorbell, I open the door.

"Hey?" Liz looks between Logan and I.

"You can come in." I smile to her and move out of the way. After closing the door behind her, I walk to the kitchen.

Liz places the folder on the counter and crosses her arms. "Are you the boyfriend?"

"Logan Carson." Logan extends his hand and shakes hers.

"Liz."

"Thanks for bringing the work over, Liz." I smile and pull her into a hug.

"No prob. I gotta go, but I will text you later." She winks and heads to the door. "It was nice meeting you." Liz smiles to Logan and leaves us alone.

I turn and face Logan, an amused look on his face. "That went better than I thought."

"What? Why?" I laugh.

"I have increasingly became scared of your friends." He shakes his head.

I roll my eyes. "What friends?"

"Exactly."

My mouth drops open. "Hey!" I slap his arm just as he lifts me up and carries me back upstairs.

"So, Brooklyn, how did you meet this boyfriend you speak of?" Gina addresses me at dinner.

I swallow before glancing at Cameron. "At a party."

"I see. Does he treat you right?" She nods.

I smile. "So far, yes."

"Good. I promised your mother I would keep a close eye on you. This includes the private life." She winks.

I laugh. "Okay, Gina."

"Anyways." Nash cuts in. "I am taking the guest room."

"No. I have been here longer." I scoff at him.

"I'm liked more than you." He sticks his tongue out.

I gasp and look to Gina for support. She laughs. "You two are fine in there together. I just don't want any funny business."

"Scout's honor." Nash nods to Gina.

Cameron just sits silently, picking at his food. I look to Sierra, to which she just shrugs.

After dinner, I do all of my makeup work and go back to feed Hunter. The nightly routine carries on with taking a shower and preparing everything for school tomorrow. Noticing how late it has gotten, I plug my phone in and lay on the edge of the bed. Nash and Cam have been in Cam's room, so I'm not sure when Nash will be back in.

Just as I am about to fall into a deep sleep, I feel the covers move beside me. Sensing it was Nash, I turn over to scold him. My breath is caught when I see it is Cameron lying beside me.

"He fell asleep in my bed. I'm strong, but not strong enough to lift him out of there." He mumbles.

I nod, silently letting my brain work.

"I can go on the couch if you want. I don't mean to make you uncomfortable."

"It's fine." I turn back around and stare out the window.

"I'm sorry about earlier. I shouldn't have eavesdropped and ruined your secret singing." Cameron continues.

"It's alright." I sigh. "I kind of lashed out more than I needed to I guess."

"I'm here, even though it seems like I'm not." Cam places his hand on my arm.

I turn back around and nod, just staring at him. He moves closer and wraps his arms around me tight, causing my worries to temporarily float away.

I'm not sure how, but sleep overcomes and I drift away.
