4 weeks after surgery
I had recovered almost fully and successfully from my breast removal surgery, and all checkups showed that the cancer had been removed.
Tal had moved back to his place, and life was simple again.
My hands tightened on the short leash, Pumpkin pulling hard to get to the scent she had targeted.
I sighed, and unclipped her leash, the furry dog sprinting off into the brush behind my apartment.
Thankfully she was obedient and stayed near.
I got onto my phone, looking through texts with Tal.
Slowly placing my phone into my back pocket, I noticed that Pumpkin wasn't coming back.
"Pumpkin?" I called, my cold hands making a cone shape by my mouth to make the sound bigger.
"Pumpkin!" I called again, this time it was mixed with panic and worry.
Going into the high bush, I managed the see my dog getting into garbage.
"PUMPKIN!" I hollered, my teeth grinding down in anger.
My fists clenched and I grasped her by the collar, dragging her away.
The dog barked like she was saying 'mom, wait! i wanted that!'
"Pumpkin, darling, that's bad for you!" I said with a sympathetic sigh.
Reconnecting her leash, I walked her up to the apartment and put away her leash, refilling her food bowl and finding a good book.
I was tired, and ready for a nap, but getting back to my normal sleeping schedule had been tough but had to be done.
I couldn't nap.
Well, that's what I told myself.
-
I blinked twice, trying to wake myself up.
The book I had was folded upon my chest, my hands reaching down to grab my phone.
It was merely 3pm!
I had slept for 4 hours.Wow, what a talent.
Before I could turn on my phone and check my recent notifications, I heard a horrid noise.
Putting down my book on the coffee table, I stood up and walked into the kitchen to see Pumpkin throwing up.
"Oh gosh." I mumbled to myself, the vomit a mixture of blood and gunk.
I plugged my nose and shooed Pumpkin onto the patio.
Beginning to spray it down, I noticed the blood was in big amounts.
Oh no..
I sprinted to my phone, speed dialing the vet and frantically trying to word out the problems.
"Okay, you can bring her in anytime." Is all I heard, ending the call and rushing my dog into the car.
She was miserable, her tail low and her ears crooked.
She could barely move.
What if my little girl was done for.
"Oh God, please. Don't let it be bad." I whispered, a small tear rolling down my cheek as I sped out of the parking lot.
