My First Memories

Thud, and down came the kneelers for prayer. 100+ teenagers all in one room and not a word was being said. Complete silence. Instead of putting my head down I looked up and admired the golden chandeliers that were the size of tables, sticking out of the watermelon pink ceiling. When I looked straight ahead I looked at a dark brick wall with a huge wooden cross.

"Amen." said the pastor, and the kneelers came up and so did all the people sitting in the red velvet pews. Our principle came up and directed all the girls into one room and the guys into another. Everyone stood up, and there was a dizzing amount of chatter. Not knowing anyone I looked around and admired the santuary like an idiot. I was following the crowd outside into the hallway when I relized that I had absulutly no idea where I was going.

"Follow me" said the girl with the rectangular glasses. Not having a choice, I followed her.

"I'm Emily." she said with a toothy smile.

"I'm Aspen" I said trying despratly to imitate the smile.

We walked up the stairs into the first classroom that we came upon. There sat all the girls in the whole highschool, talking to eachother, stroking there perfect hair. Exchanging stories about the summer, doing what friends are supposed to do. I sat at the very back of the room, hoping not to be noticed, but then Emily sat next to me and so did her friend.

"So where are you from?" she asked.

"Costa Rica." I said non-chalantly. Her face contorted and she looked confused. Oh, thats not normal here is it?

"I moved a week ago. This is all last minute." I said motioning to the whole room, and attempting a laugh.

"It must have been." she said smiling again. Why was she being so nice to me? "Oh by the way this is Jasmine." She said pointing to the dark skinned girl next to her.

"Hi!" said Jasmine smiling a smile that showed her multi-colored braces.

"Hi!" I said.

"Ok so John cam back this year! I thought he said he wasn't!" said Emily. Oh that's right they all know each other.

"John is this kid in our class. You'll meet him soon." she said looking at me.

"Emily really?!" said Jasmine, pointing at her phone.

"What I'm sorry! I just like the power of pooping!" Emily replied. I did'nt know what was going on. Maybe they just really like to poop. Either way I clearly wasn't part of thier conversation. I turned around and looked at the front of the class where there was a large smartboard. Apperently there was one in every room. If only Costa Rica had those riches.

Bitterly, I looked up and tried to focus on what the teacher was saying.

"Respect boys...." Blah, blah, blah. Then we all got up. Everything was buzzing around me. People moving fast, talking loud. I followed Emily to our math class. I was in Algebra 1, so was half of the class, the rest was in Geometry. We all went around exchanging names.

"Hi I'm Sophia, and just moved here from Alaska." said one girl. I looked up immediatly. Someone who was new here. She looked very sweet, with short brown hair that was perfectly straight and fell a little bit past her ears. She was very skinny, and the Lord knew that she should go burn her clog shoes, but beside that she was very pretty. Naturally, no make-up, like me. Everyone was looking at me.

"Oh, hi. I'm Aspen, and i just moved here from Costa Rica." Everyone in the room exchanged looks and thier ahh's and oo's. The teacher, who was a sweet old lady that had the kindest smile that I've seen in this country smiled and looked impressed.

"Oh, you must be the girl who just got in a week ago ona scholorship, right?" seeing my confused face she said " My husband is the principle, Mr. Hahnle."

"Oh! Ya I am." I said smiling, and I sat down.

"Hi, I'm Tyler, and I've been here my whole life." It was him. I was totally unaware of the fact that he was there behind me. I stiffened. Did he see my idiotic face?

Most of the day had passed and the whole school was going on a picnic. We all piled on a filthy yellow bus and rode to the beach, which was fifteen minutes away, being Washington state. There Sophia and I talked and became friends. I liked her. There I met John. I liked john he was huge and very pale, but he was nice, and i think Emily and John had a thing. There on that ugly grey beach i made my first memories. Litttle did I know that I would remember those moments forever, and little did I know that those migh be one of my only happy memories where there was univeral piece between us all. My first memories.
