NeverlandsDreamer

----------------------------------------------

Ralph, Jack, and Roger walked steadily through the thick jungle, their eyes trained on the horizon ahead of them. When they finally stopped at the bottom of a rocky hill, to catch their breath Ralph spoke, panting. "We need to see if we're on an island. So, we can climb up this hill to overlook it all. If there's water all around, we'll at least know we're on an island, do you agree?"Jack nodded.
"I agree. We should come back down through the jungle and see if we can catch any pigs." Ralph told him that he agreed and Roger gave him a curt nod.

The three boys started climbing up the pink rocks, Ralph's shirt stuck to him and Jack and Roger had discarded theirs at the beach. Ralph and Jack slashed through the thick ferns that blocked their path every now and then with their parang knives.
"Why do you two have knives?" Roger asked in annoyance. Ralph looked up from his climbing.
"You didn't get one?" He asked. Roger shook his head.
"That's strange." Ralph said. "There was one for me, Jack, you, Simon, and Sam and Eric." Now Jack stopped in his tracks.
"I gave yours to someone." Jack said, a note of nervousness in his tone. He now turned to face Roger, leaning his back on the steep pink rock.
"What?" Roger said, his voice growing louder. "Who did you give it to?"
Jack paused, his face growing the color of his hair. He knew Roger would not be happy.
"I gave it to Clare."
Rogers face darkened with apprehension. He did not know what to think of this. A lady with a knife, she's gonna kill herself!
"You gave it to her! She's a girl she can't have a knife, let alone my knife, a man's knife!" Roger said, shouting now.
"Hey what's the difference? She's older than you! She wanted it for good use, not to show off like you would. It's cause she's a girl, huh?" Jack retorted, defending her like she was there. His hands balled into fists.
"So this is the kind of shit that bitch is putting in your head? She's hot yeah, but really, Equality? Come on man, you know I didn't mean it like that, just, academy boys have more experience with knives!" Roger's eyes turned darker than the black they already were. Jack's brow furrowed, contemplating wether or not to believe his friend.
"I told you not to talk about her like that." Jack spat, his voice low and venomous. Roger looked at Jack with confusion and hurt in his eyes.

Roger and Jack always used to treat girls like that. One night stands, or one date, and that was it. They would sneak one girl or another that they would meet on their free weekends through their windows when the dean was asleep, it was convenient they were roommates. They always called girls sluts or bitches, so Roger didn't understand why it wasn't the same now.

"Fine" Roger huffed. "Defend your little girlfriend over your best friend. I'm leaving this expedition, bye losers." Roger swiftly climbed down the rocks and disappeared out of sight.
Jack's mouth opened and closed in disbelief. He had never really fought with his friend before. Roger did have a bit more of a temper than him, but Jack couldn't shake the feeling he was thinking something else, he called Clare hot. Jack shook it off and continued to climb.

Ralph followed Jack and decided to let the red head cool off before talking to him. Ralph too was mad at Roger for calling Clare a bitch. The blond boy thought she was very pretty and kind, she was the only one that actually tried to help organize the little ones. His fists curled into balls. He vowed to protect her from Jack and Roger, he knew what they did in their dorm rooms at night with girls, and he knew Clare would never want that.
