Clare came stomping into camp, eyes ablaze with evident fury. Her cheeks were stained with the dirty marks of smeared blood and angry tears, some of which still lingered in her stinging eyes. Her mouth felt vile and poisoned, and Roger's taste still lingered on her tongue. She spat on the ground, a weak attempt of getting rid of his flavor. It was a nagging reminder of what he did to her, what Clare had let him do. Roger violated her, threatened her, and reduced her dignity to that of a coward.

Staring at the empty camp, Clare searched for Simon. If she could talk to anyone about her little - encounter with Roger, it was him. At least he would understand and hopefully know what to do about it. Clare was ashamed of not only herself, but of the dark haired boy too.

"Clare!"

The girl turned at the mention of her name and was faced with a cheery Simon. Sighing, Clare choked down her abashed emotions and smiled back at her friend.
"How goes it?" He asked as if he was having the best day ever, Clare could say the opposite. He nudged Clare's elbow playfully, but immediately regretted it when she winced in pain. Clare noticed his stare of concern and instantly brought her fingertips to her lips, the lips that were just abused moments ago. With a heavy heart the boy looked up at the girl and shook his head. "What happened to you?"

Excuses flooded through Clare's head, all poised and ready to be fired at Simon.

I tripped in the forest..... I swam too close to some rocks..... I got attacked by the beast.

The latter wasn't entirely a lie except her beast was a sadistic boy. Clare mindlessly shook her head and teetered on the edge of truth and fabrication.

"I st-stumbled and f-fell." The Girl was beginning to sound like Piggy.

Simon peered at her through skeptical eyes. He ran his hand through his tangled hair.

"Where." The boy said,  a statement not a question. Clare gulped. Her anxiety was most likely evident on her face.

"In-in the j-jungle." This causes the boy to frown disapprovingly at her.

"Alone?" He said still interrogating her. The girl didn't answer and looked down at her feet. She slowly shook her head. Simon wiped the sweat from his face. Clare's cheeks burned from all the questions he asked, it made her angry. The boy was younger than her and he had no right to pity her like that!

"Which boy?" Simon said solemnly.

"W-what?" Clare said exasperated. Simon closed his eyes and let out a sigh. They fluttered open again and widened when he saw more bruises had begun to form.

"Which boy Clare." Simon raised his voice. Simon rarely raised his voice but he worried so deeply about the hurt girl that it sparked a flame of fury in him. The girl broke down in a horrible mess of sobs and tears. Simon had tears running down his face at the sight of the broken girl. He wrapped his skinny arms around her in a comforting hug and the girl cried harder. Simon decided it was best to stop prying.
