You're the poison in my ear
The only thing I hear
The thing I can't resist
Oh baby you're dangerous

Honey colored sunlight seeped through the trees causing Clare to squint her green-blue eyes. The roar of the waves pounded in her ear drums as if they were her own heart beat. Jack was sleeping peacefully on the rock beside her, his red hair covering his eyes. She looked down at his pink lips and thought that they fit so perfectly in hers. She kissed Jack, and oh how she liked it. She had only ever kissed one other boy and he used to wrestle crocodiles in the rivers beside her school. They were only thirteen then. This was different, part of her just wanted to smack Jack all the time, but the other wanted to kiss him. What would the others think? Will Jack tell them? What about Ralph.

Oh God Ralph

What would he think? He hated Jack.
The redhead stirred by her side. He yawned and his icy blue eyes fluttered open.
"Mornin." He said, his voice scratchy from sleep, and Clare surprisingly found it attractive. He kissed her on the cheek and he rested one hand lazily around her waist. The familiar booming sound of the conch made its way to their ears. Jack groaned.
"Come on, we gotta go! They might suspect something!" Clare said, worried. Jack rolled his eyes.
"One more minute, If I listen to one of Ralph's unimportant speeches again I might explode." Jack said as he pulled Clare back down next to him. His hands wandered her back and they snaked their way down. Too far down.

That boy must be out of his mind.

"Woah there, fresh, too low!" She said and smacked his hand away, hard.
"Bloody Hell was that for? Just trying to have a little fun, you prude! And you got to stop doing that!" He said and winced.
"Fuck you Jack Merridew!" Clare shouted and angrily began to make her way to the platform.
"You'd love that wouldn't you?"

"The reason for this meeting is, we need to set up responsibilities here!" Ralph said, and looked around the platform. The boys looked tired, hair matted and dark circles under their eyes, but the littluns stopped crying and were now playing in the sand. Clare looked up and Jack, and he gave her a crooked smile.
"We need to set up jobs!" Ralph continued. "If I call out a job you want, raise your hand and it'll be yours." Ralph was great at rallying the boys, especially the younger ones who got bored far too easily.
"Who has any suggestions for jobs? Anyone?" Ralph said and looked around the group hopefully. Jack got up slowly and Ralph placed the conch in his hands.
"My rugby team and I will be hunters. We can hunt the pigs and give you meat!" Jack said excitedly and his team started cheering. Ralph nodded in somewhat agreement.
"When you guys are not hunting, you can keep the fire watch." Ralph added. This seemed to please Jack because it seemed to give him some authority.
"We also need to build shelters. More than one because if we were all crowded in one hut, well, that would be a violation of personal space." Heads nodded throughout the platform. Clare whispered a silent yes. She, being the only girl, didn't want to sleep right next to a bunch of rowdy boys. Jack bent down so he could whisper in Clare's ear. His breath tickled.
"You didn't mind when I violated your personal space last night." Jack whispered cheekily. Clare's face turned dark red. Jack chuckled by her side.
"Who wants to build shelters?" Ralph prompted. A few boys raised their hands. Ralph counted them.
The assembly went like that. Ralph would call out a job and people would raise their hands. Whenever Clare raised her hand for a job, Ralph would completely overlook her. Her eyes narrowed in frustration. When it was just her, Simon, and Piggy left on the platform, Clare knew what was up.

Great, the reject club continues

"Ralph!" Clare called as she walked up to the blonde. Ralph turned around, eyebrows raised.
"What?" He said.
"I raised my hand for many jobs, but you never picked me!" Clare put her hands on her hips.
"You wouldn't like hunting, fishing, or building." He said simply.
"Well what if I do? And since when do you get to decide what I like?" Clare said, her voice raising. Ralph's face softened.
"You're right, I'm sorry, I shouldn't have assumed what you'd like to do. I just didn't want you to get hurt." He said apologetically.
"It's alright, Ralph. But next time, know that I can take care of myself." And she turned on her heel and went to join Simon and Piggy. She plopped down on the hot sand, already feeling bored. Simon saw this.
"Hey, I have an idea!" Simon whispered. He didn't want to wake Piggy who had fallen asleep on a rock.

It's the middle of the god damn day!

"How about we go for a swim?" Clare hesitated. She looked down at her dress. When a dress gets wet it usually tends to stick to the body, and Clare didn't want to reveal too much to young Simon.
"I don't know......" Clare said skeptically.
"Come on, it'll be fun!" He said and started tugging on her arm like an excited dog on a leash. Clare sighed in defeat.
After Simon had pulled her far into the jungle, they came across a clearing.

She could hear birds singing and multitudes of flowers scattered the area. It smelled of honey and pine. In the center surrounded by honeysuckle bushes was a pool of crystal water. She smiled, she liked this place.
"Race ya!" She shouted at Simon and sprinted to the pool. She did a cannonball in. The water surrounded her, warm and salty. It must be connected to the ocean. She resurfaced, her brown hair a shade darker. Simon was still standing where he was, eyes closed, slightly swaying.

This boy's a weird one for sure.

"Simon!" She yelled, but got no reaction from the small boy. "SIMON!" She yelled, louder. The boy's green eyes opened with a jolt. He looked around as if being awoken from a deep sleep.
"Are you alright?" Clare asked. Simon brushed back his bangs and coughed.
"Yeah, yeah I'm good." He said shortly and slid into the water. They splashed around for a bit and Clare was relieved to have some sort of a bath. They were laughing and playing, and Clare was happy to know she found a friend.
"Hey." Simon said as they leaned against the warm sandy edges of the pool. "Don't tell anyone about this place, alright?" Clare smiled.
"I promise."

Clare made her way back to the platform. On the beach there were two huts: one sturdy looking, covered neatly in palm leaves and sticks, the other shabby and falling apart.

Looks like Ralph could've used the help after all

A pair of hands snaked their way around her waist. It was Jack.
"Hey." He said.
"Hi Jack!" Clare said happily. "How was your hunt?"
"We didn't catch a pig, but we realized we needed to make spears to kill it instead of our bare hands." Clare rolled her eyes. She could've thought of that.
"You look good and clean." He said, eyes wandering.
"I did go for a swim." She said, blushing slightly as Jack continued to look her up and down. "Stop looking at me like that!" She said and shoved him lightly.
"Sorry, I can't help it that you're bloody gorgeous! Maybe next time I can join you on that swim?" He said, giving her his usual crooked smile. She smiled awkwardly, she wasn't used to getting compliments like that. A smile played on her lips, two could play at this game.
"Maybe." She said trailing her hand down his chest. "But you gotta do more that just call me names, handsome." She singsonged.
"Challenge accepted!" He said and swiftly brought his lips to hers in a heated kiss. Jack smiled.
"How about now?" He said.
"Still maybe." Jack rolled his eyes.
Clare knew that this little game might end badly, but she always loved danger. And now she was right in the thick of it.
