~David~

I awoke to another day. Another day to start over. I pick up my phone, turning it on and damaging my eyes with the blinding light. My phone beamed '7:03' at me. I stumbled out of bed defiantly.

I sat underneath my window as I stared at my full-body mirror in front of me with disgust, and looked at what I've become. A stupid loner who lost his job he loved. I'll probably lose my house soon as well.

"Why did I agree to join this game?" I muttered to myself. I joined this game because I thought this would be fun, but it's a hellhole.

I sighed in defeat and held my head in my hands. That's when I heard loud voices from outside. Unknown voices shouting and screeching.

I rushed to my feet and peered out my window to see two men fighting. One of the men had brown hair and wore punk clothes, he seemed to be losing. The other man, on the other hand, had blonde hair and wore all white. He looked a little like me.

The fight soon ended and the blonde man won. The other man left in a hurry.

The blonde man's gamer tag popped up above his head and shone his name.

"Daniel," I read quietly. His level and logo glimmered a gold colour.

A legendary player

A legendary player. No wonder he won. The other man never stood a chance if he was a lower level, which was highly likely.

"A legendary player." I repeated out loud. He has the best of the best. There's only one level higher than legendary and it's unknown of anyone to reach it. I'm the second lowest of all levels. 'Pawn'. The lowest is when a player has nothing and is entitled 'Commoner' and the highest is when they have everything, being entitled 'Champion'. I'll be lucky if I could reach the next level.

The man named Daniel looked up at me. I gasped and tumbled back a step, soon running from the window to throw some clothes on.

I chucked on my old work shirt (its green, with a tree in the middle of it), black jeans, black trainers and a red jacket.

I stumbled hurriedly down the stairs, rushing to the door. I swung it open and met the bright blue eyes of Daniel's.

"Oh! Umm, hi!" He spoke, "I saw you at your window. Are you okay?"

I nodded in silence as he stared at my gamer tag, no doubt judging how low a level I am.

"The name's Daniel," he piped up.

"David."

Daniel gave me a small smile as he glanced at my gamer tag once more.

"You sure you're okay? You look down," he observed. I sighed and closed the door on him. It was quiet for a moment then I heard Daniel's footsteps fade away from my door.

My phone then suddenly vibrates from my pocket silently. I grasped it and stared at the notification. A private message form Daniel?

Daniel: Hey, you're not okay, are you?

David: Why would I tell someone I just met my problems?

Daniel: Do I not look like a nice guy?

I didn't respond. He did but I don't trust him. Not yet anyway.

Once I sat in silence, I decided I'd go for a walk outside.

"Maybe that'll clear my thoughts," I considered to myself. I walked out the front door, locked it behind me and strolled on.

The birds chirped and the wind blew leaves across the concrete beneath me. I missed nature. Ever since I was fired from my previous job. Being a camp counsellor was the best. I don't know what I did to get fired. Bad luck, maybe?

"Ugh, I don't know," I whispered as I leant against a nearby tree. I slid down the bark and planted myself onto the grass below.

"Nice to see you again," a familiar voice chuckled. I gazed upwards to see Daniel once again.

"What do you want?" I snapped.

"No need to be hostile. I just wanna be friends."

"Why would you want to be friends with me? I'm Level 2 for fuck's sake," I growled.

"Who cares about Levels? They're just a tag, doesn't change the person."

"Yeah, but it changes the views of that person," I sighed. Daniel sat himself down next to me, so close that I could hear every breath he took.

"Look, I just want to be friends. Is that too much to ask?" He questioned. I sigh in frustration as his question circles my mind. I can't argue with his reasoning, but does he have to be so forward?

"I have to go," I stated. I got up briskly and sped off. I could hear Daniel following me from the crushing of the leaves behind. Then something jolted me backwards and I fell into someone's arms. Daniel's.

He held me and we looked into each other's eyes until I snapped out of it and managed myself to my feet.

"Sorry," Daniel apologised. I muttered an inaudible 'It's okay' and sprinted off back home. That's when I realised I gained a crush for the only man I know in this damn game.

When I arrived home, delivery men were taking boxes out of my home.

"Ah, David! We had to, basically, take away this home from you. You haven't payed rent," my landlord told me.

I took in what she just told me and ran in a random direction in tears. As I ran, I saw black and purple ribbons circle me like an eagle, showing the world I was levelling down, making the corner of my eyes sting from salty tears. I know I'm acting like an emotional teenager, but I can't help it. I can't control my feelings, I've lost my house, what more could happen?

Then, one massive thought popped into my mind, disregarding all the other thoughts floating in my mind.

Suicide

Should I really though? The myth is that if you die, your memory resets in the game, but if you die from suicide, you remember everything in your last life. Is that myth true though? I could always try...
