~David~

Thank you

"I promise, Daniel."

Those words I spoke last night circled my head. Why did I promise? I can't keep a promise like that. I laid in my bed, one arm resting on my forehead. Sighing, my eyes drifted to my door, as I heard shuffling behind it. I watched the door open slowly to see Daniel peeking through with a smile.

"Hey, David. You okay?" He asked. I nodded, my hair ruffling against the bed sheets. Daniel stepped in slowly, closing my door gently. He paced to me, standing at the side of my bed.

"W-what is it?" I stuttered. He smiled and kissed my forehead.

"I'm going out today, helping Jen. So I need you to take care of the house while I'm out."

I nodded. He smiled and hugged me.

"Thank you," he whispered. He parted from the hug and kissed my cheek, before turning on his heel and walking out swiftly, a small bounce added to each step.

I groaned softly and rolled out of bed. Trudging to the window, I stared through my half-open eyes and saw Daniel bouncing out the house. I sighed dreamily and threw on some messy clothes.

I slowly stepped down the stairs, each step creaking louder than the last. I reached the floor, trudging sleepily to the kitchen.

Silence floated throughout the room, breaking it by each step I took.

Next to the sink was a white plate with cooked breakfast on it; a note was placed next to it with Daniel's writing.

'Have breakfast ❤️'

I smiled softly and took the plate and some cutlery. I settled down and sighed, only eating a few bites after leaving it.

I trampled upstairs and in to my room, sitting on my bed, bored. I slowly got changed and stared outside, dreaming.

I was snapped out my dream by people throwing stones at me.

"Get out of here!"

"You shouldn't be here!"

"Come back when you're acknowledged!"

I panicked, closing the window and pacing away from it, stones still bouncing off the glass.

I ran in to the living room and grabbed the note and a pencil, I flip the note over and write on it for Daniel. 'I'm sorry.' I sighed and laid it on the coffee table, then silently pushing myself out of the door.

I attempted to sneak past the group, but a noise from myself emits and alarms them. I began to ran, the group chasing after me.

My breath was shaky and uneasy as I sprinted, I panicked as the players ran after me; yelling, and throwing rocks and pebbles at me. My breathing quickened as my legs supported me; they were in agony but I couldn't stop. If I stopped, I'd get beaten.

After a long way of running, I stopped for breath. I turned around and saw that the group was nowhere to be found, nor anyone for that matter. I spun in circles, attempting to look for someone, but no one was to be found. I started to head back the way I came cautiously, until I heard footsteps behind me. I slowly turned and realised it was Jen. I smiled softly, but the smile left when she didn't respond back. She was staring blankly.

"I thought you would be with Daniel," I asked her.

"Where were you going? Were you going to kill yourself again?"

I jumped and shook my head, "N-no! I was getting chased, I just kept running until I lost them."

"Do you know how broken Daniel was? How betrayed he felt? It's all your fault," she stated, with no emotion whatsoever.

I panicked and stuttered, "W-well I'm back now and-"

"You shouldn't be. You should've left to begin with. Now Daniel is all jumpy and overprotective. He doesn't trust you. You should just kill yourself again and leave him for good this time," she pressured. I shook my head as tears started to form in my eyes, "I can't, he'll miss me."

All she did was giggle in disbelief. She paced towards me and whispered lowly in my ear, "he never cared about you in the first place, he'll leave you like the others." Then she left.

What did she mean? The others? Leave me? He wouldn't, right? Right?

Only one way to find out.

I looked back to the direction Jen was leaving. I groaned in annoyance and ran towards her. When I was close enough, I pushed her. She turned to me, confused, "what the fuck David?"

"Why would you tell me what Daniel's done and try and drive me away? Do you hate me or something?" I confronted. She tutted and rolled her eyes, "I'm trying to save you the pain. He's a shitty person. He uses his rank for bad, he's disgusting. Ask him yourself."

I sighed angrily and ran past her, Daniel's house is my only objective. I don't care who looked anymore, I have more important matters to tend to.

I shoved myself through the gates, as people stared at me. I noticed the same group, but payed no attention when they shouted to me.

Soon enough, I reached Daniel's house. I barged through the door and shut it behind me, hearing Daniel's confused voice shout from upstairs, "who is it?"

"It's David, and I need to talk to you. Now," I demanded as I stormed upstairs. Daniel was staring in to the corridor from his room, he looked concerned and worried at my sudden change of emotions. I shouldered past him and in to his room; he shut his door and asked, "David, what's wrong?"

"Jen told me something and I need to ask you about it," I started. I turned to him and he looked a little anxious, his eyes were darting around his room and back to me. He's hiding something. I continued from my statement, "have you used other people to your advantage? Are you using your rank for bad?"

He hesitated to answer, supporting my suspicions, then he answered, "I have in the past. It's my job. I assassinate lower levels for money. You were my target." He mumbled the last sentence, but I still heard it.

I looked at him in awe and disbelief. I stormed out of his room and he quickly followed.

"Stop it, Daniel. Leave me alone."

"I can't, I care about you," he sighed. I turned to him and snapped, "if you did care, why did you take the job? You didn't care in the first place."

I started to leave again, but he grabbed my wrist. I growled and stared at him, my eyes piercing through his.

"Please don't go, I love you," he choked out, as tears began to stream down his cheeks. I shook my head and snatched my wrist back, "if you did love me you wouldn't of taken the job. I wish you just killed me instead so I didn't have to remember you."

I sprinted out of his house and to a place I knew too well. I ran through the park gates and collapsed in front of a tree, gasping for breath. I leant against the bark and looked around. This was where I first talked to Daniel. My eyes formed salty tears as I began to weep softly. As the day got darker, the more people left; the more tears that travelled down my face. I sighed as I calmed down slightly.

That's when I couldn't deal with this any more. I don't care if I remember him or not, I needed to leave this hell of a fucking game.

I got up from the ground, and started to walk towards a dark forest, in which I knew where it lead to. Beginning to run, I clenched my fists and edged closer to the other end of the forest. I pushed myself through the light end of the woods as my eyes adjusted to the sunlight, and the cliff before me. I stared down the rocks, and the ocean that was meeting them at the bottom. I turned myself around 180° and stared at the forest I once entered, as I noticed a silhouette approaching towards me. I panicked and stepped back, inching towards the edge.

The remaining sunlight exposed the player before me, it was who I thought it would be.

"Go away, Daniel. Don't bother. I'm leaving this game, and you can't stop me," I said to him with a shaky voice, then started to inch towards the edge more, as close as I could get.

"I-I'm sorry I couldn't help you, I'm sorry I hurt you, but this isn't the way you should leave the ga-"

"The only way out of this game is death! And I need out right fucking now!" I screamed. Daniel's eyes looked scared and worried. We stared into each others eyes in upset and worry. Again, when green met blue.

"I... I'm sorry, Daniel," I sighed and started to fall back, to the bottom of the cliff. I heard Daniel's scream in denial, and his body following me.

"Daniel! Wha-" I was interrupted by Daniel's lips meeting mine one last time. He intertwined our fingers and deepened the kiss before parting, pain and hurt in his eyes when I met them.

All I heard before black, "I love you, David. I promise I'll search for you in the real life."
