➿➿➿"Officer Cober?" Asked Agent Carterton questionably, shocked by her unexpected arrival.
"May I come in?"
"I suppose."
She, without formal greeting, took a seat across from him at the shabby floral printed hotel chair.
"I just came back from the crime scene on the Shelia Stevenson case."
Ignoring her questioning momentarily, "How did you find where I was staying?"
She chuckled, "This is a small town Agent Carterton, news travels quickly."
He studied her for a moment, "What did you learn?"
"Oh nothing too spectacular, only confirmation she indeed jump."
"How do you knew she wasn't pushed?"
"We have witnesses from the office building across from the hotel who watched her."
He swallowed hard, "Well you better make damn sure of it, because it wouldn't be the first time your department's screwed up on such a crucial case."
She meet his nervous glance with stark seriousness, "We always take the necessary preconditions when it comes to cases such as this one."
Her bluntness was unexpected, especially considering the encounter he had with her a mere four hours ago. Possibly due to her Sargent not being there?
"Anyway, what in the hell's name makes you think it's okay to come bargaining at my hotel room this late?"
"I apologize for the inappropriateness of this late night meeting, truly I'm sorry- But I just wanted to hear as soon as possible the answer to my question; why you pulled me aside earlier today?"
"What gives you the authority to question my actions as a high ranking investigator?"
"No authority whatsoever, simply curious." She said calmly clasping her hand in front of her.
The intensity of her eyes made him uncomfortable, in a way he was not used to feeling, "I've been looking into this case for awhile now, ever since I've caught wind of it a few weeks back."
"It sounded similar to something I heard amount happening in the nearby town of Truselville. A unknown, what I can only presume to be a man, would befriend young teenage girls and after sending explicit messages back and forth, degrade them to such a degree that made them to either want to hurt or kill themselves."
She seemed to be somewhat taken back from this new information, "Truselville? I know people who work for their police department and I never got wind of this."
"It happened only twice and wasn't considered a true threat at that time. Again, this was years ago and we deeply underestimated what the internet could do and could truly be capable of."
Her calm demeanor changed to be somewhat weary, "You still haven't answered my question."
He bite his bottom lip before letting out a slight sigh, "You see, I've been investigating this case for awhile, and knowing you were one of the commanding forces of the department I choose to speak with you."
"You were also one of the first officers at the crime scene on both occasions."
She nodded, "I know."
"So it's only reasonable I wanted to speak with you."
"I suppose; but that wasn't the only reason you wanted to talk to me- was it?"A grin formed on his face.
