   "Oakstar!"

Oakstar shot up in his den at the sound of Ravenwing's voice. The small black medicine cat never bothered him unless it was something of importance. Oakstar popped his head through his den and saw the small black medicine cat standing, his tail flicking indignantly.

"Yes, Ravenwing? What is the problem?" Oakstar could sense anger in his dark blue eyes.

"Oakstar, I believe we all have been lied to by Mapleshade," Ravenwing stated, as he talked, the clan started to circle around. "That she has lied about her kits father." Shocked murmurs rippled through the cats and even Oakstar didn't want to believe it. How could his most loyal warrior, the most fiercest and bravest, lie to her clanmates like that? Who would she cover the real father?

"If that's the case, then who is Mapleshade's kits father?" Oakstar swallowed, grief thickening his voice. "Surely she wouldn't make such a huge lie about my son, Birchface, being their father? The only son I ever had, killed, and just.. lie about it?" Ravenwing stared, hurt strengthening his eyes.

"I have been given a sign from StarClan," Ravenwing meowed a little louder, as for his clanmates to hear as well. "There were three pieces of water reed in my den this morning from a small stream. And, I didn't understand... at first.' He swallowed, his voice turning slightly bitter. "Then, I saw Mapleshade and her kits by the river. Her kits swimming like they were fish!" Even more shocked and bewildered meows echoed in the clearing and Ravenwing continued. "Since water reed do not belong in the forest, I understood and knew that those kits, were to represent those reeds. the fact that they, are in fact half-clan. Half RiverClan, and Mapleshade has been telling us all lies this whole time. I saw their father, and I knew it too. I know exactly who the father is as well."

Oakstar felt nothing but cold, dreaded anger at what Ravenwing was telling them. How could any of this be true? he thought. But Oakstar knew it himself that a medicine cat wouldn't dare ever lie like that.

"Tell us, Ravenwing!" Seedpelt yowled, a long with Deerdapple and Thrushtalon. Frecklewish looked confused and didn't understand, as if she didn't want to believe what she had just heard. Bloomheart was growling at the fact of his former apprentice that he had worked so hard with would betray like that while Beetail sat by Ravenwing and shook his head at Oakstar, as if he knew what he must do.

Behind the clan, mews of the kits were echoing closer and closer until Mapleshade's reddish-orange and white pelt appeared as she talked to her kits. She stopped, mid step, as she saw her clanmates and had a look of fear and confusion. Oakstar felt a growl rumble in his throat, anger and vicious hate. But he forced it down, as  he saw little Patchkit murmur something to his mother. Mapleshade muttered something back and her three kits settled under an elder bush by the entrance.

"Come here, Mapleshade," Oakstar commanded, unable to control the ice in his voice. Let's see if we can get her to tell the truth. Maybe then, I might show a little mercy.. but maybe not. Depending who the father is...

Oakstar watched as his warriors parted way to let Mapleshade through, she stared up at him with defensive amber eyes. "What is it, Oakstar?" she asked, her thick white tail vibrating. Oakstar also flicked his tail as he felt the shadows over head cloak him.

"Who is the father of your kits?" he demanded, "Tell the truth!"

Almost at once, a flurry of speckled golden fur pushed past Seedpelt and Deerdapple. Frecklewish stood at Mapleshade's side, her dark amber eyes glowing with defiance. "We know it is Birchface!" she called up to him, "Why are you asking this now?"

Oh, daughter, didn't you hear? "I want Mapleshade to tell us herself," Oakstar spoke softly, he felt the cold menace becoming harder and more detectable. But how could he control his anger with all these lies? "She let me believe that my son Birchface was their father. I cannot imagine my warriors would dare to tell such a lie." But Oakstar knew. By the look in Mapleshade's eyes and the way she was acting. Though he wanted to give her a chance, to be honest. He would punish her yes, and would have to work hard to gain his trust back, but he wanted her to tell the truth.
