NINA'S POV
With our moment of looking deeply into each other's eyes, we inched closer and closer to each other to what felt like a magnetic force pulling us, giving us no control as we allow it to as so. Once I was only an inch away, I turned in a form of rejection of not for him, but for me because I know he would never feel the way I feel and should just spare the heartbreak. But just moments later, I felt his hand hold my cheek, turned me to look at him, only a few inches away.
"Nina, I'm sorry for what I'm about to do." Joseph looked deeply into my eye.
"What are you s-!" My eyes widen as his lips clashed with mine.
I was completely caught by surprise. Filled with mixed emotions, I kissed him back without any hesitations. And just before I knew it, he pulled away. We locked eyes once more before turning away, both of our faces blushing.
"I shouldn't have done that. I'm so sorry, Nina." And with that, he grabbed his sweater and left. As the night sky stretched as far as the eye could see, I got ready for bed. Because of our kiss playing on repeat in my head, I hardly was able to fall asleep, but, when I did, I couldn't have smiled any bigger.
LUKE'S POV
The next morning, I woke up with the sound of my alarm beeping. My eyes widen as I glanced at the time.
"Shit, I'm gonna be late." With that, I jumped out of bed and rushed getting ready. I texted Lisa to make a breakfast smoothie for two because I didn't have time to eat at home.
"Mom, I'm going to walk today." My mom nodded as a response and wish me a good day. On my way to school, I stopped by Lisa's house to pick her up so she could walk with me.
"Hey, babycakes," she walked out of her house and began walking with me. "How was your sleep?"
"I slept well. Nothing new, ya know." I said in a calming manner.
"That's good. Here's your smoothie." I grabbed the smoothie and began drinking. "So what do you think of Nina?" I shrugged, trying to give an impression of not giving a damn about her. "Oh really? Then why do you drool every time you're around her?" I spit out my drink in embarrassment as Lisa remained as cool as a cucumber.
"What are you t-," I came to a halt as she stopped and stood right in front of me.
"Don't play dumb with me, Luke. I see the way you look at her. So, answer my question truthfully. What do you think of her?"
"I think that you are better than her in every way," I said nervously for the life of me.
"And you know it." She then kissed me after she smiled at my comment. After about ten minutes of walking and talking, e made it to school on time, where we met up with our friends. Throughout the day, I couldn't feel anything, but bad for lying to her face.
Time Skip------
After the last bell, I raced to the locker room to change for practice. On my way there, I couldn't help but notice Nina acting strange all day. After practice, I wandered around the hallways once more as I waited to bring Lisa back home. All of a sudden, I bumped into someone as I was looking at m phone and fell back.
"I'm so sorry. I should be more careful." As I looked up, I saw that it was Nina I bumped into. My heart filled with joy to see her face until I noticed the trails of dried-up tears on her cheek. "Nina, are you okay?" I crawled to her to comfort her.
"Yea, I'm okay. I just have a lot on my mind at the moment." I noticed that she wouldn't look up. "I have to go now. Bye Luke." She quickly got up and ran off. I chased after her and soon caught up. Once I was within range, I jumped onto her and we both hit the ground.
"LET ME GO, LUKE! I DON'T WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT!" Nina tried prying herself out of my grip but soon gave up. She began bursting into tears.
"Nina, what's wrong?" She didn't answer. She instead kept crying and crying. Without continuing to question her, I decided to give in and just comfort her. Once she stopped, she looked up at me.
"Luke, could I ask you for some advice?"
"Sure, Nina. You could ask me anything." I gave a reinsuring smile.
"What do you do when the person you like is interested in someone else?" As soon as she said those words, my heart dropped.
"Did she find out? Does she like me? Does she like someone else,"I thought to myself. I then got up and helped Nina up. "I can't really help you out there."
"Oh okay," she said as she gazed averted downwards. I hugged her and made my way home. I felt bad for not helping her. "Wait!" I turned around to see Nina running towards me. I stopped in my tracks to allow her to catch. Then, she hugged me really tight. I wished that this moment would never end. I let her go and looked her in her eyes.
"Hey, Nina, could I ask you something?"
"Sure. What's up?"
"I was wondering if you wanted to hang out at my place with me, Lisa, and Jenny?"
"Sure! Why not? I'll send you my address." Nina pulled out her phone and texted her address so she wouldn't forget about it later. "I'll see you later." Afterwards, she made her way to the bus stop. As I drove home, I started thinking to myself. " I'm glad Nina is going to be there, but Lisa will be suspicious about why I invited her. What could go wrong?"
