JOSEPH'S POV
Hours before------
After the lunch bell rang, I waited for everyone to leave first so I won't be trampled in the hallways. As the hallways became silent, I started walking to the cafeteria. As I walked, I began thinking about what happened the night before. " Why did I kiss her? What if she doesn't want to talk to me anymore? What if she hates me? Oh, why am I so stupid? She'll never feel the same way. She's so perfect and I'm so lame. Dammit! Why is this so difficult? I've known her since we were in diapers and basically grew up together." Then, I heard soft singing. I followed where the sound was coming from and lead me to Nina, who was singing underneath the empty stairwell.
"Nina?" I stood right behind.
"Joseph? What are you doing here?" She tried hiding her drawing book away.
"I heard you singing and that you were drawing so I came to check it out."
"I'm just drawing a dog." She showed the drawing.
"Wow, that's a really good drawing. I'm quite jealous." I said with a fake jealous face.
"Thanks, Joseph." Nina giggled. I rubbed the back of my neck and took a deep breath.
"Nina, we have to talk about what happened last night." I sat down next to her.
"Yea, what about it," she said with a confused tone.
"I'm sorry that I kissed you. I didn't mean to make you feel uncomfortable. I know it wasn't right, bu-." Nina silenced me by kissing me. Once she broke the kiss, I was left in awe as she gazed deeply into my eyes. We both began blushing.
"What was that for?"
"Joseph, I've been meaning to tell you something."
"What is it, Nina? You can always tell anything on your mind."
"Joseph, I really like you ever since we were kids. I know you might only like me as a friend and I'm okay with that." The room fell silent. "I'm sorry. I should go." As Nina stood up, I grabbed her hand.
"Nina, wait." Just before I could say any more, the bell rang, meaning that lunch ended and hat we had to return to class. That's when she yanked her wrist out of my grip and ran to class. There I was. All alone. Letting the girl of my dreams go once again.
End of the school day----------
Once the last bell rang, I packed my bag and made my way to the photography club room. As I was listening to music, I was suddenly pinned to the lockers. I soon realized that it was Lisa. I never knew what she wanted to me even though she has a boyfriend.
"Hey, Joseph. You look handsome as always," she said in a flirtatious way.
"Lisa, can you leave me alone for once? Why not just go to your boyfriend," I said in an aggravated tone.
"Oh, forget about him. He's not even half as cute as you." She started to lean forward in an attempt to kiss me, but I turned my way to show her a clear sign of rejection. "What's wrong with you! I, Lisa Jane, head cheerleader, and the hottest girl in school, will no be rejected be some quiet, photography nerd!" She huffed and walked to the photography. I don't know what her deal is with me. What's so great about me? Once I entered the photography, I saw Ryan prepping his camera, but something was off about him. I decided to walk up to him and see what was wrong.
"Sup Ryan!" Once he looked up, he gave me a smile to hide his frown from before.
"Hey, dude! How's your project going? I might think there's not a lot of work done while you're with Lisa if you know what I mean." He wiggled his eyebrows up and down.
"No, none of that."
"Bro, you have to be lying! I see the way she looks at you."
"Nah, man. I'm into someone else. So what's wrong? You look down."
"It's fine. The girl my project is really hot but keeps rejecting me."
"Oh. Well, what's her name?"
"I don't think you'd know her."
"Well, keep trying. She'll eventually say yes, but let time sit in between."
"Alright. Might take your advance on that." I walked off, waving Ryan goodbye. I wonder who the girl is that he was talking about. I then resumed back to m project. When it was time to go home, I packed my things away when Lisa came up to me.
"Hey Joseph, how did the pictures come out?"
"They're fine, I guess." I tried paying no attention to her, but she just kept harassing me.
"Are you doing anything after this?"
"I'm just going to go home and maybe hang out with an old friend of mine. Why do you ask?" I said in a suspicious way.
"Maybe we could hang out at my place." She moved closer as I moved backward.
"We could, but I'm pretty busy."
"With what exactly?" She placed her hands on her hips.
"I remember I have this thing. Yea, a thing." I got my bag and headed outside. When I turned around, I noticed that Lisa was following me.
"HOLD ON! WAIT FOR ME!" She said from a distance. I tried to ignore her, but she kept following me from behind. That was when I snapped at her.
"WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME! WHAT DO YOU THINK THIS IS! DO YOU THINK THAT I WOULD LIKE YOU! I NEVER HAD AND NEVER WILL! I'LL EVEN PROVE IT!" That was when I grabbed her and kissed her.
I looked deeply into her eyes with darkness and rage. "I...feel...nothing," I whispered to her in a sinister voice. Out of the blue, I heard sniffles.
"So you like her now?" I turned around to see who it was and realized it was Nina, who had tears streaming down her face.
"Wait, Nina, I could explain." I tried to go towards her, but she kept backing up.
"I HOPE YOU TWO ARE HAPPY WITH EACH OTHER!" With that, she ran off, not looking back.
"Wait, Nina!" I tried calling for her to come back, but it was no use.
"How about I make this up to you?" Lisa spoke up.
"How could YOU help me?" I sat on the ground and laid my head in my hands.
"Why not come over to this small sleepover with my friends and me?"
"You know what? Why not? What could go wrong" We then started walking to her car.
