"We leave pieces of ourselves everywhere. Every time we meet someone, they take some of us and we take some of them. That's how it is. Little particles stick us together. Bit by bit. I think that's what makes us whole." ~Evidence Of Things Not Seen.

"Fuck." I muttered under my breath as Roger's rival gang chased me around the block. My legs were pumping or is that suppose to be my heart? I'm just really confused.

Times like these I wish I had a house to lock all the bad out. But no, I have to face it head strong and it's starting to get cold. Then again, at least it isn't raining. Like last time.

"Stop!" A strong voice yelled, I looked ahead of me and saw a familiar dark brown head. Roger! And friends...

More like gang.

I ran into Roger, he caught me before I fell to the ground, and quickly threw me behind him. "Thank you so much. I owe you one."

"No problem, Acendro." He said looking at his friends. My eyes glanced down at his waist belt and saw the gun again, his wallet! I have it.

"They just started chasing me like last time and you saw what happened last time." I said shaking my head and fixed up my hair. The gang, who call themselves the Dragons, stopped running and looked directly at Roger's gang, the Tigres.

"Look what we got here. Y'all really gonna defend some street fag?" The leader, Benin, challenged. He doesn't really know how much truth is behind his words. And why does he have to be so streotypical? 'Look What we go here.' Man, all you need to say is: I would have gotten away with it if it weren't for you meddling kids.' And bam! We got ourselves a scoopy doo special.

I've never ran so much in my life. That's not true either, I walk everywhere. Oh right!

"Is that what your father told your mother before he beat up the both of you?" I challenged back, triggering Benin.

It's true, you could hear his father yell at him from down the street. I use to hide out near his house, they had a nice bridge. I would feel bad for him if he wasn't such a dick.

"Shit." I heard Roger mutter under his breath. "That's deep."

"I'll get you when you're fucking alone, watch your back." Benin said walking away, the rest of his goons following him. If it weren't for you meddling gangs, I imagined him saying.

"How?" One of Roger's gang members asked turning to face me. I smirked and shrugged my shoulders. I feel mysterious, I should buy a cape I mean, forget you know food and shelter.

"I know a few things or two." I said and looked at each one of them, all dressed the same way, in all black with red bandanas. "Thanks."

"No problem kid. You helped one of us, we help you." One of them said. I smiled at Roger and laughed when he threw his arm over my shoulder.

"My house? My sister is cooking." He offered looking at us. I shrugged.

"Fer sure?" I asked looking over at the bridge where I sleep.

"Yeah. Let's go, you can shower and get ready for school. My buddy goes to Jones!" He said walking to his house. I smiled and nodded. The boys behind us cheered, they go to Unity. It's not as united as you'd think.

Gangs everywhere. That school is the school you go to if nobody else wants you. I'd probably go there if I wasn't so smart.

"Thanks man." I said feeling happy I have some allies. If I don't do them wrong, I'd be lucky if they stick with me for the next two years, just until I get out of this place.
