"Grow up."
~English Teacher (she doesn't like me)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~Today is the first day of school. God, I feel like such a kid. A little kid. A toddler. If I was actually in a house, I'd probably be pacing and picking out an outfit. Its like 60 degrees out and I'm cold because the gangbangers stole a bit of my stuff, I'm left with only one outfit in 6am.
Hey, at least it's fashionable and I look a bit presentable. It's a black long sleeve shirt with buttons on the top, black skinny jeans and my special black beanie. It is all black with a white butterfly in the center of it.
My older brother gave it to me when I graduated 8th grade, all A's since the 4th grade as I like to say.
But how much I'd kill for a smoothie. No. A shake.
"Yo." I heard a deep scratchy voice said. I unzipped the tent and let the dog inside, it's not homeless, it's a runaway. He always runs away from his abusive owner. I'd keep him but the owner once beat me to the pulp when I protected the dog.
Daniel. That's the dog's name. He's so cute and scruffy. He's an American bulldog, mainly white with brown and black spots that make it look like he is wearing pants, high tops, and a very short shirt.
"Hey buddy." I said petting him.
The old man outside is usually like a bird, he always tells me when I should run because the local gang is there or what's going on in the news. He tells me everything.
"You're so cute." He looked over at me with his pale blue eyes with green specks. "You're just the drug I need. I'm starting school at Jones tomorrow and I can't wait! I thought, may as well try to get in, and I applied to go to that high school in sophomore year. Now they want me! It may be junior year and everything but I still want to go."
The dog looked at me like it was trying to tell me something, his tail was wagging.
"You're telling me to be myself aren't you?" I asked looking down at his scrumshes self. I'm suppose to be tuff but people around here only know me as the homeless kid, among the gang bangers, or the dog lover among the homeless people. Everyone else doesn't pay attention to me.
The dog got up and ran off somewhere, leaving me to get ready for school. I sighed and grabbed my only bag, a black jansport I found in the trash, it has a hole in the small pocket, but if you don't put anything in it, the bag is brand new.
"Time to go, I guess." I said with a sigh. Inside my bag I put the toothpaste, tooth brush, and everything I needed. Since I'm on a scholarship, I get a free locker, free books, and a free uniform I think. Hopefully.
The walk there was horrible, the bus was early this time and I guess I missed it. My gondola, I live on the outskirts of downtown. The school is in the center of downtown, so it's a two hour walk.
Damn, can't I just have a car? I wouldn't mind being homeless to much if I had a car. A nice car that didn't cost none.
"Where do you think you're going kid?" A local gangbanger asked, I kept my gaze down and guard up.
Roger. He's not as rough as the other guys but just as tough. I've seen him in the fights, he could kill me if he wanted to. But he's seen me fight, I could hurt him if I wanted to.
"School." I said picking up my pace. Roger walked by my side as we past a few of his rival enemy people. "What are you doing?"
"I'm not gonna hurt you if that's what you mean, Klein." Roger said, I finally lifted my gaze to look at him. His eyes seemed unsteady. Why does he always feel the need to call me by my last name though?
"Are you in trouble?" I asked, not that I cared. I just wanna know.
"I'm out numbered."
"You're a fighter, Roger."
"They're trying to get back at me for something I didn't even do. They even hurt my fucking sister, Acendro." Roger said grabbing my arm and pulled me past the glaring eyes because we could have gotten jumped and finally we were in Downtown area.
"Cecilia?" I asked knowing his sister, she gave me some food one time when her other bitch friends spat on me.
"Yeah." Roger said letting go of my arm, it wasn't nearly as muscular as his but it had the shape and slight strength. I try to do some push ups when I can, and crunches so I have slight abs. Just really, really skinny.
"Oh. Sorry man." I said looking back at the ground, by hurt he means not beat up. The other hurt, not cheating. I hate the word because it reminds me of what I've been through.
"Tomorrow and you know, whenever you need, you can crash at my place. Shower, eat, whatever you need. Just until my parents come home though. Thanks for doing me a solid." Roger said looking around. My eyes glanced to his waist belt and saw he was holding a gun.
"Is it loaded?" I asked keeping my gaze. Roger smirked and shook his head.
"Not yet that is." He said smirking and ran off but turned around before going to far and threw me his wallet. I looked down at it and back up at him, picking it up. "Treat yourself. Give it back tomorrow at my house, the address is in there."
With that, Roger Kenning ran off. He's crazy. Opening the wallet, simple black one, there was about 40 dollars in cash. When I flipped over to see if there were any credit cards, I saw it had somebody else's ID. There was a paper sticking out, it was his address, I stuffed the paper in my back pocket.
"Elvis Wolf?" I asked out loud and shrugged, walking into the main entrance of the school. It has to be around 6:45 or something. School starts at 7:20. Great.
