Mark closed the car door behind him as he stepped out onto the sidewalk. He waved to his dad and turned around to look in front of him. He stared in awe of the beautiful architecture and intricate carvings on the front doors. Above the tall dark wooden doors, the words "Ravenhood Academy of Magic" were engraved on an ivory plaque. It was his first year attending a magic school and he was already in love with it. He was surrounded by every possible member of the magical community. He even spotted a griffin hanging out by the lockers. This was Mark's freshman year, so he was incredibly nervous, but he managed to make it to his locker without embarrassing himself.

As he started to load his textbooks into his lockers, he heard someone on his right. Glancing over to see who it was, he saw the most gorgeous boy he had ever seen in his life. The boy turned to face Mark and smiled.

"Hi, I'm Haechan. I'm a freshman here. And you are?", the boy asked. He held out his hand to Mark, but Mark just stared at the boy, dumbfounded, until he snapped back to reality.

"U-uh, hi, I-i'm M-Mark. I'm a-a freshman t-too," he stuttered. He shook the boy's hand and hoped he wasn't blushing too hard.

"Nice to meet you Mark," Haechan replied and he went back to his locker. Mark prayed that Haechan would be in his class would be in his class, but at the same time he hoped he wouldn't embarrass himself and ruin any chance he had at impressing him. Haechan shut his locker and went to class. Mark hurriedly put the books he needed into his bag and slammed his locker door before running to class. The hallways were almost empty except for a few students scurrying to their respective classrooms. "I'm definitely late," he thought. And on the first day of school that too. He waltzed into the classroom and the entire class turned to look at him. Great.

"Please take a seat, we were just starting introductions," the teacher said. He was a round man with round glasses and short stubby legs. He had a long wispy white beard and a shiny bald head. He pointed to a seat in the back of the room. As Mark got closer, he saw that his table partner was none other than Haechan. He smiled at Mark with a toothy grin and waved. Mark shyly waved back at him and sat down at the desk.

"And you in the back, name and magical species, please," the teacher asked.

"Hello, my name is Haechan and I'm a woodland fairy," Haechan said cheerfully. As he sat down, a few giggles could be heard in the room. "That explains the dark brown hair and pretty features," Mark thought. It was Mark's turn next.

"Hi, I'm Mark, and I'm a sorcerer," he said quickly before sitting down. He wanted to avoid the scrutiny of his peers as much as possible. Despite this, there were still gasps heard throughout the classroom. Sorcerers were usually cut off from society and lived in seclusion. Even Haechan was staring at him. The rest of the period went by fast. Their homework was to find someone in their class of the same magical species and get their contact information. Mark wasn't looking forward to meeting anyone. He wasn't an introvert or anything, but he was the definition of socially awkward. He picked up his bag and left the classroom. As he trudged his way down the crowded hallway, he heard footsteps running behind him and a familiar voice calling his name.

"Mark, Mark, wait up!" Haechan screamed from behind a mob of seniors. Mark turned to look at the boy. He was panting and his thick brown hair was disheveled, but he still looked like the most perfect human being Mark had ever met.

"What's up?" Mark asked.

" *huff* I *huff* wanted to g- *wheeze* get your *huff* phone number *koff* " Haechan said. Mark smiled at how cute he looked at that moment.

"Oh yeah, of course, sure lemme write it down for you," Mark replied. He pulled a piece of paper out of his backpack pocket and scribbled his number on it before handing it to Haechan.

"Cool, I'll text you after school today, ok?" Haechan asked with a smile. Mark nodded and grinned back at him. He could have floated into space he was so ecstatic. Mark only had two classes till lunch, Spell Casting and Magic Control. He had almost reached the door for his second class until he heard voices on the other side of the hallway. Mark shoved his way through the crowds of people until he found the voices. A group of seniors were crowding around a small boy. As he walked closer, he saw that the boy was Haechan, curled up against the lockers, tears streaming down his face. One of the seniors was holding Haechan's bag high in the air where Haechan couldn't reach it. The other boys were taunting Haechan with names like "Fairy boy" and "Woodland princess". Mark felt the fury inside him burning.

"Drop it" he commanded. The boy's arm felt limply to his side and he dropped the bag safely on the floor. Haechan was staring at him in awe, jaw dropped, but Mark didn't care at this point. Mark was only able to use his magic when he really needed it, and this was one of those times.

"Back off" he said. Mark could feel the magic in his voice as the words spilled off his tongue. The boys went flying backwards and slammed into the lockers on the other side of the hallway. Mark held his hand out to Haechan and smiled. Haechan sniffled and shakily took Mark's hand. Mark pulled the frail boy up off of the floor and said,

"If anyone ever bothers you again, tell me. I'll be there for you, I promise. Haechan grinned and nodded happily.  With that, Mark walked to class grinning to himself. Whether or not he was late was unimportant.

Mark had a felling that today was the start of something amazing.
